4paw said:I just got the waitlist too. The email says not to expect a call until after June 1. Makes me wonder whether they are saving the opened spots for folks who haven't heard anything yet - still offering acceptances? Or will there really be waitlist movement?
And how many people are on the waitlist? And how many spots really come up for waitlisted people? i.e. what are the chances off the waitlist?
Anyways - please post when you get news. i'm interested in acceptances over the next week - that would seem that the may 15 spots translate into outright acceptances, which means less waitlist movement, right? so i'm interested to see if there are acceptances, especially for those whose decision has been on hold for a while.
USArmyDoc said:I think if you havn't heard anything yet you will be waitlisted. It seems that they get rejections and acceptances out somewhat quickly. What I mean is if you have been waiting 8 weeks chances are its a waitlist. If you have been waiting 4 weeks you are still in for a possible acceptance.
4paw said:I'm thinkin' that those who have not heard back yet will hear soon, because the admissions committee is coming close to the end of their process - there likely will not be too much longer for any 'hold' category to remain, and all the 'holds' will turn into accepted/waitlisted/rejected.
My reasoning goes like this: If a person has been on hold for a long time, their application looks pretty good, and the committee might be wondering whether they should accept the person or waitlist them. Right about now, the committee has a much better picture of how many actual spots they have with which to accept more people. Likely, those that have been on hold for so long will now either be accepted or waitlisted. If they have been on hold for so long, they, perhaps, are looking quite good for the acceptance depending on spots available, the more recent folks interviewed, etc. Anyways - long waits translate into a good thing, according to my logic.
Furthermore, I'm interested in what sorts of acceptances happen this week, because I'm figuring that if many who have been on hold for a while get acceptances, that means that the 'hold' category was more like a traditional 'waitlist' category at places that waitlists move a lot. If the acceptances post-may 15th mean that the committee is looking at a more realistic picture of how many spots they actually have, that means that there would be less movement on a waitlist, because the acceptances that are made are more 'firm', less reliant on may 15th movement, and perhaps only reliant on whether folks get off waitlists, or get accepted elsewhere, and choose to go there. this late in the game, there is generally less movement like that, however, there is some.
o.k. i see what armydoc is saying - that more recent folks could be the ones who snap up the acceptances - the ones who would have done that anyways, and what is left is overwhelmingly waitlist spots. and, there may be more acceptance spots to give right now, post-may 15 which means that some of the long-waiting people on hold may find themselves with a final acceptance, rather than a waitlist. all of that decision-making post may 15 might mean very few spots for waitlistees right now. all up to how many people end up dropping an acceptance that they had confirmed at may 15.
so then the question turns to be - how many on the waitlist in the end, and what kind of prospect for there being open spots - good prospects, or slim prospects?
anyways - waitlist is better than rejection! each time, one step closer to the goal. MED will one day be mine, too!
USArmyDoc said:4paw, I have not heard of this category "hold." I was told by Mr. Mosely there is either accept, waitlist, or reject. I don't know where you got this hold category. Let us know...Thanks
mizio said:I interviewed in November 2005 and got a waitlist letter in January 06, I emailed Mr. Mosley twice in the past 2 weeks and have not gotten a reply, how are my chances looking right now? Thanks.
USArmyDoc said:Who knows. How can we tell you your chances?! I have emailed 4 times, called 5 times, and sent 4 letters. Can you tell me my chances? We are going to have to wait it out.
Yes, they reject people or so he told me. There was never a mention of HOLD.
USArmyDoc said:Maybe you misunderstood me. I am saying that those who are still waiting for a while probablyt are looking at a waitlist. They send acceptances priority mail which means it will get to you or the post office will hold onto it. Meharry probably just hasn't gotten back to those who are waitlisted. I had to call to find out my results because it got lost in the mail.
Also Mr. Mosely said the class is full not to long ago. It would be totally unfair if those who just interviewed get reviewed again before those who interviewed in October, etc. I think that is why the email the person just got say June 1st. They probably review them in order.

4paw said:Hi Army Doc -
1)i got waitlisted by email. so they do get sent by email at this stage in the game.
2)the class may have been full then, but this is post-may 15 now, so open spots are on the table for the committee to be able to offer acceptances for, and this at a time when not everyone has been decided on. will they open up waitlistees for that competition for those spots? i don't think that's likely - they've still got first-round people to consider, as accept/waitlist/reject to offer those spots they now have to offer. if the class opened up a little around may 15, i have a feeling it will be pretty close to full again before they get back to 'waitlist' category. btw, i'm in that category with ya.
3) news on these lists said that waitlist does not have any particular order. however, here's to hoping that we all end up *somewhere* for this years' matriculation.
yahabiby1 said:Hmmm. What do you guys think of this. I am already on the waitlist and just got the waitlist e mail again today. Does this mean anything?
Thnks for your thoughts
HopeFaith said:Just found out I've been waitlisted as well. They say we will all know for sure by June 19th which isn't too far off.
Isn't it funny that the letter starts off "I'm pleased to inform you..."
USArmyDoc said:WTF?!?! Is everyone being waitlisted? Obviously, they are finished with decisions if you ask me and are turning to the waitlist.
c_diddy said:I just received my waitlist e-mail as well. I'd be curious how may rejection letters went out post-interview, but if there were rejections, I highly doubt those who were rejected are on SDN about Meharry's waitlist - the topic is not too relevant to them anymore.
In any case, we should try to figure out how many people are waitlisted. Bear in mind that just because it is post-May 15 does not necessarily mean that the Meharry class is firm. All of us were told that we would not hear anything until June 1st at the earliest. To me, that sounds like Meharry is waiting for all their current acceptances to either accept/decline the offer, and then at the end of May, they will see exactly how many spots they have open and how many people they have waitlisted. From there, they will select enough waitlistees to fill the class, plus maybe a couple extra just in case an accepted waitlistee unexpectedly declines an offer of admission.
While my hopes are not incredibly high this late in the game, there are far worse things than being waitlisted. Take the University of Arizona med school, for example: every year they waitlist between 40-50 people for a class of 110, and usually about 80-90% of the waitlistees ultimately get an admissions offer later in the year. I'm certainly not saying that this will be the case with Meharry, but my point is that waitlist movement can and does happen, sometimes pretty significantly.

yahabiby1 said:I heard from an interviewee that meharry has about 200 people on the waitlist according to Mr. Mosley.... Is there truth to this? The class has only 90 people....
Any thoughts?

do-ca said:ArmyDoc,
When did you gof or your interview. Maybe we were in the same group. 🙂
USArmyDoc said:January 19th
do-ca said:Okay, I went on the 26th.
So, we are the early birds!
What did you think and didn't you expect to get in? What do you think happened to us? 🙂
USArmyDoc said:I did not expect to get in honestly. I don't think many people get in at first. I was expecting the acceptance range or alternate list. That is the way it is over at Meharry. Both my interviews went very well and when I spoke to Mr. Mosely after he gave me the email he says I have a call on my file. When I pressed him a little more on what that means all he would say is that interviewers have their favorites. We'll see. I really hope to go there this year. Also, I have to say. At first I was down about starting in June, but I am already bored and yesterday was the last final!!
It is still very soon for them to of handed out acceptances from the alternate list yet. If things go as they have in the past, there should be a good amount of movement.
do-ca said:You keep using the terms alternate list and acceptance range. You may have already answered this, but what's the differnce if there is any. I have been put on the waiting list and that's all I know.
