I heard that they have taken people off the waiting list. I have not had any confirmation of this besides the fact that a friend who is also waitlisted at Meharry called and was able to pull this information. They told her that there have been a handful of people so far that have been pulled on the list. Once again, This is not information I got but someone informed me of.....

When I spoke to my friend who just graduated from Meharry he made some calls to a couple of first years he knew. They said they don't know of anyone who was accepted from the post-bacc program yet. So technically, there are 20-25 spots open, but inevitably a good amount of them will be taken up. However, the most ever taken from the program was 18. So that will also leave some spots open. Don't loose hope yet.

This is my first time posting, but I have looked at this website for about a year now. I just have to say something regarding Meharry. This place has left a very bad taste in my mouth, not the school, but the administration and staff, especially those who are there to inform you of admission or rejection. I don't know if that is Mr. Mosely's job, or someone elses. Anyway...I was put on the waitlist, called, wrote emails, got the run around just like everyone else. May 15th came and went, June 20th came and went, August came and went, nothing!!! I didn't even get a letter in the mail, not even an email telling me I wasnt accepted. I don't know what goes on over there, but it is very unprofessional, at best, more rude than anything. I never really vented, so there it is, I still don't feel any better. I don't mean to discourage anyone, good luck all.

I've done a post bad program and started my first year of medical school...and still nothing. I just waiting to find out that i was accepted and didn't get the letter. My line sister applied to the Dental School...didn't hear anything and went to her second choice "Ohio State" and then after about a week or so of school they called her and asked why wasn't she in class...after receiving NOTHING from the school.
I did a MMEP program there before applying and loved it but the admin and professionalism really pissed me off. And I hate when people become "ghost" after they say to reach them at anytime.
I say to keep calling because for all you know you might be in the school and not even know it. I came from a small HBCU (Claflin University!! 😳 ) and i knew that it might be some problems but my goodness that was the worst when you're trying to get into medical school.
But I'm at VCOM now so if anyone wants a good word put in for them i'll be sure to do so if you like. THey really love the minority population here and area really trying to increase the numbers...so when we recommend it really moves people to the top of the pack.

I just think Meharry's lack of information is what is making everyone angry. We just want to know if they have had any movement and if not do they expect to have any?

Ya see, this is what is confusing. They say the class is full and can't talk about waitlist movement. Yet, someone else said they were told there was some movement. I just don't buy into all of this. I think right now the class may be full because they are taking into account that the post-bacc kids. I think seats will open and I don't think it will be any less than the previous years.

Here's my two cents. Personally, what was originally my "backup plan" is looking more and more like a better option with every passing day, to the point that I am seriously considering turning Meharry down if they did wind up taking me off the wait list. I got into a Master's program at Tulane that has historically placed 80-90% of its graduates into med school, with the majority of those being accepted into top tier med schools. So let me think about this. Hopkins/Columbia/WashU/UCSF/etc at age 24, or MMC at age 22. In my mind, the prestige of one of those schools is definitely worth the extra couple years...especially with the lack of professionalism that has been universally shown to all of us by MMC. I spent nearly $600 in travel expenses to go interview there, and my first interviewer didn't even show up! I never received a formal apology. As if that wasn't enough, now it's June and they do not even have the decency to inform any of us about important details such as wait list size and expected movement - details which invariably impact our ability to commit to plans for our futures. I find the lack of respect to be a total turnoff. I'm sorry if their admissions staff is overworked, but that does not give them an excuse to treat any of us like this. This school seems second-rate at best, and as someone who values virtues like mutual respect and professional courtesy, I would have a hard time going to this school knowing that it completely lacks both.

That's a great program btw and I'm not just saying that because I work there. However if you're accepted to MMC I'd go there instead of spending a year getting your anatomy certification. While you're right most, if not all, people in the program are accepted to med school you never know what will happen. Better to be safe than sorry.

lol...my interviewer didnt show up either.... he was teaching CLASS at the time of our interview, so they reassigned me to a grad student to interview me...

I am happy to answer this. I chose podiatry because it will be a great profession for me. I am looking forward to having kids and a family, so not being on call and to work crazy hours suits me fine.

Plus, I like the area of podiatry. I have wanted to do surgery since I was a kid and being a DPM I will be a surgeon three years after graduating- no pesky five year surgical residency!

I'm happy with my choice. 🙂

Well I don't know if they have met, from what I gather we're not supposed to hear from them until after June 12th. So hopefully, they can hurry up, because considering that MAPS starts next monday, people need to know as soon as possible. With that being said, good luck to everyone, we'll keep our fingers crossed.

That's what Mr. Mosely said in the waitlist e-mail they sent me. So I don't know if they meet today or if they met last week. Just piecing together all the information possible. Good luck to you too!

Ok, I went to the office today. They seemed to be super busy and the secretary was fielding phone calls the entire time I was in the office, so rest assured they're not all kicking back with a glass of lemonade. I heard her say something about them mailing out letters this week and that if you haven't heard anything by monday (as that's when MAPS starts), you can assume a negative decision. Sorry I didn't find out more!

There is no more five year track. I think the adcom is probably coming to a close. And also, Mr. Mosley said that he would be calling and sending a letter and an email if you get in. He said they'd send it everyway possible.

June 19th is Orientation. From June 20th on to July 28th I believe, we have a mandatory summer program called MAPS. The Fall semester begins August 7th. And the white coat ceremony is June 26th, I believe.

I spoke with Ms. Davis on Friday afternoon, and she said the only waitlist movement that is expected to occur will take place during this upcoming week due to no-shows. Since it was Friday, however, this info. was pretty obvious.

At least, there might be a slight glimmer of hope left. And, if not, then good luck to all of you in whatever path that is chosen.

So, now that we're all a couple days into the rest of our life, how's it goin? I've just finally gotten something decent birthed for next year's essay. It's sitting, breathing its first few breaths, before the refinement brings it into adulthood and off to seek education in the states 🙂 The rest of the amcas application now has to be looked at. Thank god the grades don't need to be inputted again. But that list of activities could use a brush-up. I realized last year i didn't enter some important stuff. A tuturial leader position in the arts was the big one!

I've just visited my home in Ireland and I'm feeling grounded. The highlight of the trip was building a fire, and my family gathering around. We got to the storytelling again. The biggest thing that made me happy was everyone saying that this was better than television. And sure, they would know because electricity and television didn't come into that area of Ireland until my aunts and uncles were all in their twenties. Before that it was still gathering, creating fun amongst a group, telling stories. There's the best grounded feeling that comes out of that sort of thing. My heart's really wanting to go back to countryside, and I may just put in an application to an irish university this year - get me closer to family. I've had the best last two weeks, first on that five-day residential portion of training as a psychotherapist, which I have now finished after four years. And then a trip to family, to home, to the earth.

This list has been awesome - i am getting a sense of knowing doca and usarmydoc and sk8doc. If any of you want to trade essays or anything like that, i'm up for it - maybe we could even get an off-board email thread going. I'd like to keep in touch.

So - what are you doing with this magical year that you get to not be a med student in? What calls you in your life? I hope you're getting excited too about the possibilities. but man that amcas essay took a while 🙂 I'm happy now that something's breathing.
