Hi there,

I am an undergraduate student concerned with being able to retain all the information in Medical school.

I usually do well in all my undergraduate classes, but I tend to forget the information as I begin a new semester..

For example, I finshed #2 in my Organic I class last year. Ask me any question right now regarding the material, and I will be totally clueless. This is really frustrating, and I don't know what I can do about it.

I fear this 'loose memory' will carry on to my years in Medicine(if I get accepted of course)

Did anyone have the same problems in Undergrad? How was your experience throughout the years of Medical school?

Thanks

Many people flush right after tests. There is no way you will be able to retain all the information learned in medical school. The only time it may come into play is when you are studying for STEP I after your 2nd year. Just allot a little more time to studying because you know you may not retain as much of the information.

You lose it especially fast if you crammed, but it comes back fast.

To be honest you'll remember better after you use and practice your knowledge. I personally worked in a neuro degen lab and a virology lab. Safe to say that it's hard to forget neuro , viro , and euk cell stuff. Reading papers and research articles really makes solidify your knowledge even more!

Bottom line is the more you practice what you learn the more you remember.

But let's be honest not everyone has a photographic memories. I do in fact forget things but at some point in the past I learned major concepts and i still remember them. Also once you've truly learned something, relearning comes easier. I use to tutor bio in UG and well let's say i dont remember everything even though i do tutor people. But i have notes and lecture slides and just by glancing and reviewing I'll quickly remember things =)
So my advice is to learn something and take good notes so that if you need to recall something just go back to your notes and refresh your mind because you learned it at some point in your past!
