I have been advised not to mention that I took Kaplan by one Kaplan instructor and another person who took Kaplan. Does anyone no if this is true? Its because they teach you to "beat the test", not really learn the material in a sense.

Eh, who cares? Did the really teach you to beat it? Tips and tricks and narrowing down material is one thing, but unless you walked out with 30s, no one is thinking you beat the system. Whether or not you retain any of it is up to you.

I think you're talking about not bringing this up at the interview, right? I mean, there's no reason to lie if you're asked, but I can't imagine why/how on earth you would voluntarily say that you took a Kaplan course. I mean, did you score extraordinarily or something?

lol I dont think this is a big deal at all. You already have other stuff to worry about: GPA, DAT, ECs, girlfriend cheated -> you failed a class, your dog die -> got a D in Chem etc...

If they ask you, tell them the truth and what you think about Kaplan.

I dont think kaplan deserves "beat the test" title though.

Kaplan tricking you into thinking that by using them, you'll "beat" the DAT.

I took Kaplan myself and I did fine not a 30. And yea I am talking about interviews. One instructor said try not to mention for several reasons. One being the way they teach the course. Second some people think it shows you cant study one your own. and blah blah.

If anything, the Kaplan course would have been detrimental to your study.

More time on Kaplan stuff = less time on useful stuff like Crack DAT Pat, Cliff notes, Destroyer and Chad videos.

You should tell the Kaplan people how you scored. They'll probably make you give a testimonial and have your picture on their website. Front page.

I wouldn't put much thought into any of it. Kaplan is big. Everyone knows who they are. LOTS of people take the courses. There's no real big secret that's going to make you look bad as an applicant. They're just another tool to prepare for this one standardized test we all take. Some people do better learning/studying that way and it's perfectly okay. You're in for a horrible 4 years if you think you're going to have to sit and learn all alone. There's nothing wrong with group study and learning. They're really not interested in how you prepared for the test.

If this topic actually came up in an interview, I'd be more worried about how your interview got so sucky to get to this point than about how you want to answer. You're in the interview. They saw your DAT score. Now they want to meet you. They didn't ask you to fly out to see how you prepared for the DAT.
