Merit Scholarships--Yes/No?

Given the state of this economy, this question may answer itself. But, from anyone's personal experience or understanding, are scholarships for dental school beyond reasonable expectation? I most likely will not receive any FAFSA financial aid and will apply for HPSL and Perkins loans.
