Michigan State Question

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
anddd also i talked to admissions and they said that in the past they used to give out supplementals based on SIS score, however this year everyone got a supplemental

*sigh* and I was starting to have a glimmer of hope...

All I know is I submitted my supplemental on 9/25 and haven't heard anything back. Everything is shown as 'Complete' though...

You can always call the admissions office and ask if they are using rolling admissions this year and when you should expect to hear something.
Good luck!

Now I'm all paranoid--my transcripts aren't marked as complete yet and I turned in my supp app a week before that! sighhhh.

Hmmm, my transcripts have been marked complete for two weeks or so now and I submitted my supplemental on Sept 25th. Maybe they were doing admissions for the early entry program first and are working on traditional acceptances now? That's just my speculation. I will call my sis-in-law and ask her what she knows. She's an undergrad student there and knows of people being accepted.

i talked to admissions, they said that its not exactly rolling admissions. It's like the people they know will get in for sure (highest academic scores) find out right away that they got in and the people with no chance (lowest academic scores) get rejected right away. However, the average applicant, which is most of usssss will wait till February to find out.

Thanks psilovethomas... I was hoping they were all IS since I'm OOS, haha.

Should keep to myself.

Well, hearing one was OOS ruined my glimmer of hope... would be great to hear back so early. Any ideas what range is considered very high for the SIS score?

The two people I know had 4.0's and decent GRE scores (~1100) so I'm guessing >930.

I just got my acceptance letter Friday evening, and I am out of state, so I would assume in state should have heard around now. good luck to everyone!

That's awesome! Congratulations! I wish at least my transcripts would get marked as complete! If you don't mind me asking, when did you submit your supplemental?

I believe I submitted it around October 15 or so if I remember correctly

I'm glad I'm not the only person who's transcripts aren't complete! I submitted my supp app October 17th, and MSU is my in-state.

Not sure if SIS makes a difference, and not totally sure what my SIS is, but my overall GPA is around 3.4 (including the MS I'm getting right now) and my GRE was ~1430.

is the acceptance letter through mail or e-mail?

For those of you concerned about your transcripts not being marked complete yet... I just spoke with admissions who said not to worry that the transcripts are not marked complete yet. They just haven't gotten to your application and it doesn't mean anything other than that. She also said to expect to hear after december 1st. (I submitted my supplement 10/14 so I was a little worried)

I turned my application in the day before the deadline (9/30) and got a supplemental on 10/6 (it's due the 14th). For those of you who also received supplemental applications already do you mind posting your SIS scores? Mine is a 910.

To calculate your SIS score...
take your overall gpa, divide by 4, and then multiply that by 270
take your science gpa, divide by 4, and multiply that by 320
take your last 3 semesters gpa, divide by 4, and multiply by 200
take your GRE score, divide by 1600, and multiply by 210.

Add it all up and you get your SIS score. It's out of 1000 points. To be "academically competitive" and receive a supplemental application, I'm pretty sure you have to have above a 790.

Mine came out to a 922. Would other people, especially the couple people with their letters already, mind going through and posting theirs. I went through using this formula and the admission statistics for the class of 2014 and got 876. So that seems to be the average SIS score for the admitted profile from last year.

MSU uses all of your science prerequisites, including the math requirement, to calculate your science gpa.

ok, thanks. i'm trying to calculate my SIS score right now. if you have more than one class that fulfills one of the requirements, how does that work? are all classes included then?

Example, please?

Example, please?

for example, i took inorganic chem I and II, and i have more than 1 course that would fulfill the Euk cell bio requirement.

maybe i am just making this harder than it really is......long day🙄

MSU only requires gen chem I with lab, so I don't believe they will include gen chem II in your science calculations. I'm not sure about the eukaryotic cell requirement. You can always email Pat ([email protected]) and ask her.

So I checked my Admissions Portal, and they just marked my transcripts as complete, but I have one science course deficiency. Other than taking the course and sending them my transcripts, do I have to do anything about this right at this moment? Will it jeopardize my chances of getting into Michigan State? Thanks for your help 🙂.

I would address this issue ASAP. Call or email and let the admissions office know that you are taking/plan on taking the science course you are missing.

As long as you're planning to take the class before classes start (assuming you get in/choose to go there) you're fine.

I think I misunderstood. If you plan to take it and the CVM knows that (planned courses), then yes, you're fine. BUT if you are taking it, but did not list on your planned courses, and thus a "deficiency", then address it.

The course was not listed on my planned courses. However I called the Admissions Office and they said it should be fine as long as I do take it and mail them my transcript. The only way it will jeopardize my chances is if I get accepted then do not take the course. Thank you for your help 🙂.

The Wait is driving me a bit insane. Just wondering (not necessarily hoping, though) if anyone has heard anything from MSU CVM about the acceptance process?

I emailed them a couple of weeks ago and they said that they were looking to send out another wave of acceptances "mid-December":xf::luck::xf:
Not sure if that is answering what you were asking though 🙂

Thanks- very helpful, however will not help with anxiety ha. If I do not receive an acceptance, do I just assume I was not accepted? Or do they also send out "Sorry for trying your heart-out, but you have been declined acceptance" letters as well?

I'm going to echo this sentiment. I've been checking the mail and my status page but neither is very interesting. 😴

Got my rejection today. Apparently I am the suckiest of the sucky lol.

Thanks for all the sympathy and support guys...🙄 lol. I don't know what my SIS is...I didn't calculate it and don't particularly feel like calculating it now. Good luck to everyone who applied, though, I hope you hear good news soon. I also hope one of the other schools likes me.

sorry to press the subject, but to reiterate another person's question: was the rejection by mail or e-mail?
I really hope you hear good news from the other schools!

Sorry, I forgot to answer that. It was via snail mail.

Well... two rejections this year. Good luck to all that have applied to Michigan state... two more to hear back from. Got my little 'thanks but no thanks' letter today.

*sigh* and I was just coming to terms with rejection #1

Sorry to hear that, penny. You're in good company. I say that because I think im pretty awesome 😉

I'm sorry to Bearby and Pennyonthefloor. I really hope you hear good news from other schools!

My transcript status finally changed to "Transcripts Marked as Complete" just this last Wed, 12/1 so I'm not sure if others have had this complete status for a long time or if theirs just changed too, but I'm anxiously wondering how long to expect to wait to find out the decision now that my status has changed.

I'm in the same situation exactly - my status changed to "complete" on 12/1 as well, and I'm curious to know how long it will take for them to make a decision now.

It's been kind of a rough week for you penny. Hope things look up for you soon. You too, Bearby! :xf:

Rough is, by far, an understatement. Finding the motivation to do anything is difficult with all this crappy news. *sigh*

Got my fingers crossed for everyone else that's applied there....

I'm so nervous now to go home and check the mailbox... Poor mailman will think I'm stalking him :scared:
