Hi,

Do we really have to know what each drug is capable of killing? For example, knowing each generation of cephalosporin and what it could kill is way too random for me to have it stick. Do they really expect you to know the exact treatment for all these bugs?

Sorry for the whine post. I'm frustrated.

Thanks.

What I gather from U World and NBME exams is that you don't have to know every single thing that each drug killed, but you certainly have to know if a drug is the first line therapy for a given condition (i.e. Penicillin for Syphilis, Doxy for rickettsia things like that) Also you need to know when a certain drug will be ineffective (i.e. gram + and ceftazidime, anaerobes and aminoglycosides etc)

okay cool, thanks. so at this point in my first pass through everything i could put this on the back burner and let the questions school me on it unless FA discusses drug combos/etc.
