This is such a weird and random question, but does the name you practice with as a physician have to match your name on pubs? If someone only used only first and last name on author lists in undergrad (i.e. Brian Smith, no middle initial), but later on in life wanted to practice and publish as Brian S. Smith, would that make his prior pubs untraceable back to him? Sorry if this is absurb, just tumbling down the Sunday morning rabbit hole

No. Pubmed will have you as both so people should be able to track you down if they search by first and last name.

There's also the Orcid ID: ORCID which organizes all your pubs in one place. My school made us sign up for one.
