Midterms coming up

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Don't be a p*ss risk!! Everyone else is in the same boat.

My Bio Sci (path, anat, phys, histo) exam is tuesday. It's a lot of material, but you just gotta plough through it. Plus, you'll be astonished to find out how little a lot of your classmates actually know.

We had our review session on Friday, which was impressive merely for the fact that almost everyone showed up to a 3-5 pm review sesh on friday afternoon, and there was a biblical flood of lame questions being asked, rivaled only by the inundation of stupid comments. "When you say 'steady state' is that equilibrium potential because blah blah blah" Students that make issues out of sh#t to demonstrate their 'intelligence' really get my goat. I'm slightly bitter about the escapade.....

Not to say that my class doesn't kick a$s bc they do. I was just disappointed. Thank god we had im volleyball practice afterward😉

Oh yeah and i got to give a friend a piggy-back ride to the class, which turned out to be really fun for whatever reason.

problem is i don't know they're asking bull**** questions...

Don't worry.

Our class had a lot of arrogant jerks until first exam gave them an attitude adjustment as well as grades.

Also, my school got a lot more tame after Rho Chi elections during our return from fall.

Just study your best, trust in what you know, and you'll do just fine. Pharmacy schools do not admit candidates that they don't think will succeed.

Except Wayne State of course....

The average grade for each of our tests is always posted. Last week, one guy was sitting around moping because a test score was below the class average. He just seemed down because he wasn't the smartest guy in school, anymore. I don't understand these people. I only need to keep a 2.5 GPA to stay in school, which is all I care about.

My school has a "Lo Chi" group. They meet at bars and go drinking.

yeah im a lo chi member at my schools chapter...hitting the bars tonight...midterm is next week...sigh

My bio sci (path, histo, anat) exam is tomorrow 15:30-18:30. They had to kick it back 1/2 hr bc we're learning how to immunize oranges. More later.....

Me and lyzziebeth are feverishly IMing ea other with neuro questions as we speak. this is kinda funny. oh i've got a great pnemonic for the cranial nerves too. this would definitely need to be PMd though.😉

Crap!!! Liz already knew it. These modern girls😉

I didn't think it was that bad 108 q's. What did you think Liz?

108 questions??? i hope they were mc.. sheesh.

i have my first pharmaceutics exam tomorrow.. i'm scared...🙁

im sure affraid of it, we have a pharmaceutics test next week, and a final exam in 3 weeks! (YES FINAL EXAM!) Sometimes I feel like this about pharmaceutics +pissed+ but after the exam is over and a few Corona's I feel like this  and sometimes if im lucky....😍 lol

I gotta come to school this afternoon bc they're posting scores. Our prof chewed us out bc buncha peeps were like below 65 out of 108. They take that stuff way seriously around here. You're not supposed to get C's even. It's weird. They handed out the new academic policy in lecture today. It's all weird.

right after the exam i was kinda peeved because the prof said he's not into being picky... LIAR!!!!!!! 😡

oh well.. it's done now. one down, and one more to go tomorrow.. i have to start memorizing the cardiovascular agents like a mad man now...🙄

That sucks Cake!!! back-to-back tests? Lame. I don't think we ever have that.

I've had 4 exams and 6 quizzes in 6 weeks. I'm managing to get B's, but I doubt if I will make an A for the rest of my academic life. I'm staying above the class average, though.

Our class has already had one casualty. She dropped after 5 weeks.

Even five weeks is too much work to drop. they sure make you learn a lot in pharm school!!!

I'm a big lying a-hole!! The week after next I"ve got pharmaceutics on monday, genetics on tuesday, and health care delivery on fri!!

Tsk tsk tsk...you jinxed yourself. It's your fault. lol

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Now that we're in pharm schoool, is it really necessary to strive for straight A's?

I've been working hard these past few weeks, but one fellow classmate reminded me during one of my full-gear exam anxiety attacks that, "we're not here to win the race, but only finish it".

Do you think that opportunities in academia, fellowships, residencies (post PharmD.) will depend on grades, to a certain degree?

Without a doubt, yes. Does the average employer care what grade you had in biochemistry? Probably not.

I worry bc SC has got this nutty new academic policy where they start sweating you down if you get a 'c'. I got an 'a' on the first exam, but it wasn't enough of one. Like, i'm worried that you could smoke one exam, but if you pooch the next one hard it'll take you down to a range that's unacceptable. we had a bunch of peeps in our class that were in the 60s or below out of 105 pts and they've got a hole they need to dig themselves out of.

It's a weird mindset, bc if even if you don't care about getting A's on your final transript you're shooting for them just so you know your gpa won't get hammered during the lean times.

I always think of sports analogies: If you wanna finish the season with like a .350 batting average you need to have months where you bat .465, to compensate for the months you bat .200.

As far as do peeps later on really care that you got straight a's? My answer is 'no'. I think they're way more concerned about you're activities, performance in rotations, and demonstrated leadership. The director of uci med center told us that she doesn't give a crap about gpa's or LOR bc both are so inflated these days. Which sucks bc i don't think gpa's are inflated at all at sc, but lilmk could answer that better than me.

There are some people who are upset about not making A's. The big children's hospital here only offers residencies to those students with a 3.8gpa or higher.

I think they are making it harder on themselves by worrying about something like that. I do better on tests when I'm relaxed.

seriously people have to take a chill pill..
...take a step in my life....i went to the bar every other day last week after i studied ....

hell...i went to the bar today after my midterm.

just need to pass

Piece of good advice that someone told me -->
" 'C's earn degrees"

You may not want to get C's..but just knowing that makes me feel more comfortable...

DAMN midterms killed me. I swear Im at the bottom of my class. Undergrad was so much easier. No more last minute cramming for Kevin. I just hope I can stay until the end of the year.

tri, i really think that you are doing better than you realize. i know the academic policy changed this year so i can see why you're so stressed. but you have the right attitude about your grades and it sounds like you will be just fine. i remember thinking and feeling the exact same way my first year. i was scared--the exams were hard, the grading seemed tough...but rest assured that they do curve big time at the end in all the classes esp. pharmaceutics so if you're already getting A's on exams you will be in great shape at the end! but i also understand your concern about trying to maintain a cushion for yourself in case you bomb future exams--i'm the same way. just keep doing what you've been doing cuz it seems to be working for you. a little stress is good to keep you on your toes but don't worry too much. grading so far has been pretty fair and i think you will feel the same way in Dec/jan when grades come out. good luck (and remember for pharmaceutics--TEST PACKET! even for ericsen's part. he often repeats questions or they are very similar.)

What do they call the person with the lowest GPA to graduate from medical school? "Doctor...." (or something like that.....)

peace
