Anyone know anything about Midwestern's CPG housing? I checked there website but it only offer little pictures that don't do justice. If anyone can help me on this subject matter that would be great. Also do most people choose single bedroom or prefer to live with someone there first year (ie get to know people) or is it just better to get a single room? Any help would greatly be appreciated!! Thanks!

when you fill out the application, you have to rank what type of apt you want. i live in a two bedroom luxury with a random room mate. We have a fully loaded apt, but it costs a little more. You can get smaller places that don't have all the amenities, but it's up to you. i know people that live by themselves and people that live with there families. On campus housing is tough to come by and there usually is a waiting list. Any other questions just let me know.

What do the luxury apts include (ie furnitures)? And are the studio apts nice? I've been looking into those and would you choose the standard one bedroom over it?

As far as I know, all of the apts come unfurnished so you have to bring your own furniture. Luxury apts include full size washer/dryer,dishwasher,microwave, very spacious. Studios are a little small for my taste but all of the apts are nice. go to the website i posted at the bottome and click on on vs. off campus comparison. It tells you the square footage and a bunch of other stuff that comes with either luxury or standard apts. http://mwunet.midwestern.edu/administrative/SS/ssHousing_AZ.htm

Do studios come with washer/dryer at all? And how much are the washer/dryer? $1.00 a wash and $1.00 to dry?

Omg, the housing application fee is $500!!!! o__0 Ouch..

hmm never did campus housing b4 (still bumming around at my parents house during my undergrad)

would that 500bucks housing deposit go toward rent?

also... if we want housing we should apply ASAP right?

i've been in one studio and I did not see a washer or dryer. It could have been by the bathroom area, but I believe it would not be full size if it is in a studio. You can contact student housing coordinator for those specifics. Even if you get an apt that you don't like or meet someone you want to live with, you get first dibs on a place for the next year as long as there are vacancies. If you happen to be off campus your first year, you can always move on campus the next year.

yes you should apply as soon as possible. I was accepted to school in February and was put on the housing wait list, but luckily got a place in June after graduation.

Application Fee
A non-refundable application fee is required with your housing application. This fee will become your security deposit should you be assigned an on-campus apartment. Your application fee will be refunded only if Midwestern is unable to place you in housing. The fee was $500.00 for 2007 - 2008.

I feel the pain already. Haha.. Did anyone apply for housing yet? I just went ahead and submitted the application.. I don't want to scramble for housing if I do end up going to Glendale..
But now I feel extra poor. 🙁

ahh u beat me to the punch i was about to submit then i got scared... what did you pick? I'm thinkin' studio for myself... Also if we chose rooms that are for singles do we still have to pick "YES" for MWU assigning us a roomate in the case that we don't get our single rooms or should I just put no?

and are we suppose to pick the 9 month 5/31 date,

3rd floor is key. I live on the 3rd floor and you don't have to hear people walking around and bugs are more prevalent on the ground floors from what i heard. I don't know if other washer/dryers cost anything. The ones in our apt don't cost anything.

Do you kno wat the difference is between a standard one bedroom (~460sqft. vs. a studio(613 sq ft.)... Why is a standard one bedroom more expensive than a studio? Is there more things included?

so those of you who put the deposit already...does that mean you are going to MWU for sure? bc what if they give you the housing and you end up not going? I stayed in the on campus housing at my friend's place when I interviewed a couple months ago. I thought it was decent but then we also visited some apts right across the street that are like total luxury, like granite countertops and a crazy nice kitchen. And they are around the same price only if you have roommates though (ex. $1035 for 2 bed/2bath). The 1 bedrooms are pretty pricey like at 800-950 something. The only downside I guess is you have to pay for your utility bills separately but I mean, thats nothing new. I can't decide...i'm kinda leaning towards off campus though...anyone else?

here's one of the apt choices if you guys have a www.rent.com account or just sign up real quick

i'm just leaning toward on-campus for the moment b/c it'll b my first time moving out (eeek!) plus i really want to try to NOT buy a car for as long as I can..

anybody know if MWU is walkable to any major grocery stores?

I'll probably do off-campus housing when I get to know people more... That way we can split the rent and there won't be any problems down the line if I didn't know the person too well... Thanks for the heads up... I submitted my housin' app today... there goes $500 =/ Also, were suppose to pick the 5/31 date for movin' in correct because our year starts in June? Anyone know what date in June specifically?

I picked the 5/31 date too.. I forget what day we start but it's in the beginning of June. Sometime before students in Cali get out for the summer, right? I tried looking at their calendar online but it confused me. Lol.

Here's the link that I went to for the tentative calendar:

It'll be my first time moving out too!! I'm pretty nervous about it, but hey, gotta do what you gotta do.

I have no idea if there's any grocery stores nearby.. That's a good question though.

so which residence option did you guys pick? im debating between the studio versus sharing a luxury 2 bedroom... each has its pros n cons i guess!

but im definitely not gonna pay until later in 2008... the biggest thing was to put down a deposit so im guaranteed a pharm school to go to.. but other than that.. 500 bucks is a lot of money! it's like one month worth of rent! So imma wait it out first...

i craiglisted Glendale n the rental market seems to be fairly good toward the tenants... where I live right now theres a 99% rental success rate and it's very competitive to get a place! it seems to be me that phoenix is a lot easier to get an apartment tho...

i even saw a craiglist apartment that said 'FELONIES OK!!!' haha  so i guess even if i have to do off-campus housing it's not too bad!

I chose the studio with the added stuff as my 1st option... then 2nd option is the luxury bedroom w/ added stuff... =).. I'm hopin' for the studio though...

theres no grocery store within walking distance, although there was this new building being built across the street...might be like some kinda of small shopping center? but not sure if it will have a market

I stayed in Peoria (sp?) for the interview (about 5-8 minutes drive) and there was a nice shopping plaza there and even a COSTCO.

I've heard that the Ikea is pretty far away though-if you plan on getting funiture there...

There is a grocery store in walking distance. It is less than a mile. But if you don't want to walk that far, (hot in the summer!) you can always find someone else with a car. The 130 ppl in your class are going to become your closest friends, and you're bound to meet someone with a car. The IKEA is about 45 min away, so I wouldn't recommend that walk! I have a bunch of friends who live on campus and they really love it. We hang out at their apts when we have short breaks between classes. Then, on the weekends, they hang at my place. You'll be happy on or off campus. The new shopping center acroos the street is going to be mostly independent restaurants from what I've heard.

hello! R u a P1 student as well? thanks for ur info!

so u do think it's totally possible to get by w/out buying a car? I was just gonna go the bus-route but i've heard so many Phoenix locals talking bout how the transit system sucks there! 🙁

Hey Michelle. Yes, I am a PS1. Let me know if you have any other questions, I'm happy to help.

I think you can get by for a while without a car. Everything you REALLY NEED is in close proximity. If you plan on having some semblance of a social life, you'll need transportation. If you're lucky, your friends will have cars. Most people in your class will. You cannot depend on buses or the transit system. As you move away from central Phoenix (and Glendale is pretty far from central Phoenix) you will have a tougher time finding buses. I have lived in Phoenix Metro for 10 years, and I have never used public transit because waiting for buses eats up half of your day.

When they calculate your financial aid, a significant amount is disbursed for travel expenses. You may want to consider a modestly priced vehicle. I know the loans can get hefty, but just consider any debt you accrue as an investment in your future.
