Midwestern, Glendale 2012 class

sigh...dreading the group interview...really nervous...you guys may think im weird.

I think each interview as about 20 people? from reading last years thread. not too sure.
or i can luck out and you guys are all 30th and ill be the only one on 29th HAHA i kid i kid

As I read it in the interview survey tool (linked above in the thread somewhere), there are 20-30 people who show up that day. When it's time for interviews, they break you up into groups of 3. It seems they give each person the question in turn rather than making you compete to answer first, which has been my experience in the couple other group interviews I've had.

Take a deep breath, it's not really that bad to be interviewed by more than one person / with more than one person. Just listen attentively to what the other attendees say so you don't say exactly the same thing (or at least acknowledge that they said the same thing). Make eye contact with each interviewer - I find this easier in a group, because sometimes you can actually be staring at the wall & each interviewer will assume you're looking at one of the others. In a group interview, my experience has been that you get a few more follow up questions to your answers than with one interviewer, because there are that many more people listening to your answer & thinking of questions. But those are the only differences I can think of.

A group interview with 20 people at a time would be an impossible ruckus. It would be jury polling, not a pharm school interview.

thanks, what you said actually made me feel better about it since they designate the order students answer.

I wish I signed up for 29th. lol Stupid PCAT.

is it because you guys didnt fulfill some of the requirements?
my stats are pretty low so might not be based on GPA+PCAT.

Ayuka! any news?

I just barely submitted my supp for midwestern a few minutes ago lol but i didn't improve much on the pcat this week so idk if i'll get an interview or not. And touro ca said i'll get an email once my app goes under review. so yeh ... grrr.. lol

105 when I was driving home from school today.
Last year I had an interview in November.
I live here and love it.
But it was a little gross by the end of the interview walking around in a dark suit all over campus.
So yeah, you Sep. interviewees, just plan on it being a little hot here.
XtsukiyoX's advice was all pretty good. Just remember, because it is warm so long here, there is no shame in carrying a water bottle around with you to make sure you are hydrated. I don't know if that would be considered 'tacky' at a school back east, but here no one would blink an eye.
Good luck guys !

lol you have hit the glorious 100 posts! The rankings here are based on the amount of time you post on the blogs since you are thus an active member.

I figured is was something like that. It still was a little bit of a surprise.

Do you guys know the weather in Arizona at this time of the year?
Heard around 90F? That is bad news for guys walking around in suits LOL.

I realize this topic may be beat into the ground, but have you ever heard the saying "it's a dry heat"?. We have VERY low humidity here in AZ and while it may be over 100 and hot, it should not be humid and sticky. It makes it feel much cooler. So yeah, may still suck, but not like Chicago in the 90's with 75% humidity or whatever.
:boom:

QFT 👍 I will probably be carrying a water bottle my own self.

I would take 115 AZ heat over 90s with high humidity. Done it in Seattle, it sucks hardcore.

Now, 110 with 50% humidity, that's pretty bad... lucky we're not in monsoon season. 😉

Since so many of you guys are going on the 30th...anyone wanna give me a ride home? 🙂 I'll be less than 3 miles away from the campus so I promise it won't be some crazy long drive.

The other school I'm looking at is in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl and they have the next 10 days of scattered thunderstorms, 90 degrees and 80 percent humidity... BLAHHHHHHHHH

Sorry Panda I've got my flight home scheduled right after the interview!

are you living at any of the mariott chain? they have shuttle service that can pick you up. that's what I'm gonna do after my interview...hopefully they wont be late, tight schedule with flights 🙄

I'm in California too. 😀

Yah, the electricity bill is really high but living costs in AZ is relatively low. Recently, my dad left the refrigerator open and one of the lights on in AZ while he and the rest of the family was in Cali for summer vacation. *sigh* -__-

Yah, the electricity bill is really high but living costs in AZ is relatively low.

Only during summer. Think of our electric during the 3 worst months of summer like running heating during winter elsewhere.

During summer, I have high electric bills for 3 months. Spring & Fall, we're on evap cooler, so low electric bills but the water is slightly higher (like $10, a nearly insignificant amount). During the worst of winter, we may turn on our heater for a couple weeks, but it's on natural gas. 😎

AZ supplies a lot of energy to Cali & other nearby states. I know the rate for power here is a lot less than some of the bills I've seen from southern Cali. My mum says her power bills were much higher in WA, since we had an electric heater.

one more week ladies & gentlemen, you guys excited?
Let's have some fun and blow some minds at Midwestern University.

😀

Hey guys,

I registered for the Sept. 30 interview date. I'm coming in from Michigan, first time to Az and really excited 🙂. I was reading this thread and noticed there is a group interview. Sounds interesting and exciting. I think we should be all right. We're all in the same boat so I think we'll be more relaxed when we meet each other in the morning 😀

you guys pretty much all know each other from posting here that are going on the 30th...i am just one lonely self....sigh..

lol i kid

Congrats! Do you mind sharing your stats?

I know my stats are low so anyone i ask is higher than me LOL

But you have great job experience and probably fantastic LORs. lol

Speaking LORs, I know 1 professor that screwed with pharmCAS applicants by writing negative LORs and checking the box for "I don't recommend this student." O_O

Looks like im in the Sept 30'th club . Does anyone else here have a spouse that they are bringing?

i mixed up my schools i am going on the 29th!

Dude, if there's normally about 20 people who go, SDN'ers make up a quarter of the people on September 30. 😱

bub76, what do you mean? To the tour / interview day itself, or to Arizona?

Well I called the admissions office and they said that your spouse is welcome to come on the tour, lunch etc. The part that your spouse is not welcome is the actual interview for obvious reasons 😀. Anyway I guess my real question was, does anyone here have a spouse and or are they coming on the tour with you?

I don't think anyone is bringing their spouse but wow I did not know we can do that. Thanks for that information!

You guys will all meet on the 30th....I feel left out with colby lol

You know the rest of us SDN ppls are going to talk behind your backs at the interview on the 30th, right? lol I kidddd.

so mitsubishi brought up the issue of where to leave your luggage when you go to interview. I was planning on leaving it at the hotel and go back to grab it on the way to airport. Does anyone have other alternatives? Pharmacy schools really have a space for you to leave your luggage?

just leaving it in my car..guess driving has its perks

I'll be there on the 30th for my interview too! It's my first interview so I'm pretty nervous/excited 🙂 I'll be arriving to AZ in the afternoon on the 29th. Let me know if anyone wants to meet up

Before anyone asks... my stats are:
GPA- 3.3
PCAT- 84%

See you guys there!!

I strongly considered bringing my s/o, but we discussed & decided he could come to the campus a different day. It doesn't help that he'd still have 8 hours of work when he got home... That'd be a really long day. I guess it's a little different when you live close to the campus. 🙂
