Anyone out there applying to/going to MWU in glendale, AZ?

I applied to Midwestern in Glendale online and got an interview invitation 2 days later. I scheduled the interview at the end of this month, but am still confused about the accreditation. As some might know, this will be their first DPT programin in Glendale and they are seeking for accreditation right now. I haven't seen any updates on this status, so I'm not sure when they will be finally accredited and if it is safe to go to a school before they are accreditted? Any thoughts?

Hi Yun,

As with all DPT programs, in order to become fully accredited a class has to go all the way through to graduation. The main reason when programs dont receive accreditation is if there is something critical missing in the curriculum which I don't see as a concern for MWU as they already have a very solid program at the Illinois campus. They also have an agreement with the Illinois campus as well as AT Still University in Mesa, AZ that they will accept the Glendale students if there is an issue with accreditation. I know if you call admissions they are more than happy to talk about the process and they will address it at your interview!

Good luck with your decision!

I just had my interview last Friday. Everything is spectacular and the physical therapy lab is absolutely jaw dropping. Everything is new and impeccable. The staff is extremely nice, friendly and educated. The interview is very laid back and semi blind, so the interviewers do not have your GPA or GRE scores but only your essays and resume. Last Friday we were told 18 spots were reserved of the 50. Class begins on June 7th. Good luck! I am now waiting for feedback from my interview session!

You shouldn't have to wait too long, I think they called me on friday (my interview was on a tuesday). Hopefully I'll see you in June!

ucpt - How did your interview go? I feel as mine went well. Of course, I was qualified to receive an interview in the first place, so my credentials were appropriate. The staff, however, never said anything about a phone call. They said we could check our portals and see if they change, or wait for the letter. Our committee is scheduled to meet tomorrow so I am eager to find out as soon as possible. This was my second school I visited and I was swept off of my feet. I completely underestimated the validity of the program and the institution. It is incredibly jaw dropping. I hope I do see you in June as I met a lot of wonderful interviewees on Friday! I just hope that they dont make me wait too long because I am on the tip of my toes as I type this!

Now that I think about it, I believe my portal changed Thursday night, and had an "accepted student checklist" and then I was called Friday morning. I had mixed feeling on how my interview went but everyone was incredibly nice and the facilities were absolutely amazing!! My brother is currently in the DO program there and as nothing but great things to say about the school/staff/faculty. Hopefully you hear soon!

Great! I just hope that they dont deny my admission. Ha! I dont see why they would. The admissions lady hinted that my file looks very promising, but its not up to her. In all reality, I'm psyching myself out because I feel I did very well and just cannot wait any longer.

Any chance that you will be, or know of anyone looking for a roommate? I know I am getting ahead of myself here, but if I get accepted I will definitely go there. I am from Minnesota so I am going to have to craigslist to get somewhere to live because I cannot afford to fly down for another weekend and apartment shop. I graduate with my Bachelor's May 14th, and pending acceptance I would be on my way the next week on the road to AZ!

Hey eder,
yeah its pretty early, I've been looking on craigslist at apartments and heard that san lagos and san prado are nice and right across the street from campus. Shoot me a message if you end up going to MWU and we can chat about it if you want!

UCPT & Eder - I have an interview in a few weeks and was wondering if you could shine any light on it for me. You said it was a pretty casual interview but anything you can share would be great. Reading your reviews of the facilities only made me want to go there more. How were the interviewees dressed, suits and dress, or a little more casual. Also, if you don't mind what were your stats going in and how many interviewed in each group. Any advise words of wisdom will be greatly appreciated.

norcaldpt - we didnt really get any stats besides that when I interviewed on February 26th (there were 9 of us), 18 spots had been reserved with a down payment. The facilities are absolutely amazing and the campus is gorgeous! You will not be disappointed! Most of us DPT interviewees were dressed very professionally (including myself) in a suit and tie, and women had suits on or very classy clothes on. I advise you to know how to answer to why you want to be a PT, why you want to go to MWU and dress well.

It is casual in a sense that it is semi blind so the interviewers will not have you GPA or GRE scores in front of them since they want them to determine whether you would be a good fit for the program or not. Specify what other questions you have and I will try to answer instead of me rambling on about stuff!

Hey NorcalPT,

I was at the first interview in January and all the guys were in suits, most of the girls were in suits (myself included) and a few girls were in nice pants and sweaters. I dont think they will make your decision based on your outfit but I think its better to be overdressed. Its a long day and you spend some of it waiting to interview in a relaxed room with the other interviewees. Depending on what group your in (they split my group of 15 into 2 smaller groups) you go on a tour of the (awesome) facilities and then are interviewed by a faculty panel. There are 2 faculty and its an individual interview. Everyone is incredibly nice and welcoming and granted its the only interview I did, I would imagine its one of the more relaxed than others I have heard of. After the interview are done, you eat lunch and get to chat with current students then go one more tours and thats it! I didn't feel like there were any "curveball" questions in the interview pretty straightforward: why pt, why MWU, etc.

Good Luck! Hopefully Ill see you in June!

No one has yet been informed of admissions to MWU from the recent interviewees. Man, I need to make a decision relatively soon.

NorcalDPT - when exactly is your interview?

Still keeping my fingers crossed! :-D

Hey eder congrats!! I started a facebook group so everyone can get to know eachother/work on housing stuff. I thinks it's called Midwestern AZ DPT class of 2013

Anyone else joining us in June?! Im curious to see who else will be in our class! :-D

Hello all,

I was wondering if you guys are out-of-staters like me? I live in Chicago, and I applied to MWU in Downers Grove (the only school I applied to). I didn't get an interview request, which I blame on a transcript screw-up from my college I attended. I recently got an e-mail from the MWU-Glendale campus asking if I wanted to transfer my application from MWU-DG to MWU-Glendale? Did anyone else get this request?

I proceeded to give it a shot, and to my surprise they are inviting me for an interview. I've never been to school out of state, and am now mulling over this fantastic opportunity. I'm worried about living expenses, and because I have never been to Arizona before.

Does anyone also know how many seats are left? I'm trying to figure out my chances of actually getting accepted if I fly out there.

Appreciate all of your time!

Future - I am not sure about the others so I will speak for myself.

I didnt apply to Downer's Grove, only Midwestern. I am not sure how many seats are left, however, I can tell you this. When I was there for my interview on February 26th (prior to any from our interview group being admitted, or the next one) there were 18 reserved spots out of 50. From what information I have been able to unearth, about 11 of us were admitted from my interview group and have reserved a spot.

I am from out of state, Minnesota :-D, right next door. I do know one of my new classmates is from New Jersey, there was one there from Cali (who I believe got admitted) and several from AZ.

Tuition is the same for in and out of state. From my experience (which may relate to you from living in the city) living expenses are much less. I found a room in a house for 525 plus util with a pool and about a mile from campus. Granted I could perhaps find something cheaper but I have no time to look.

The area and campus are beyond gorgeous and the lab is jaw dropping. The staff was great and super comforting -- Nothing to worry about.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Thank you so much for the prompt response! How is transportation there? Do they have a reliable transit service? I'm really leaning towards giving it a shot and going for the interview, which would be in April. Its kind of overwhelming right now because I was planning on taking a break, and re-applying in the fall. This sounds like a great opportunity, and everything you say about the campus sounds perfect.

Future55- I had the same thing you had. I was rejected at Midwestern in Downer's Grove but received an email about 2 weeks ago asking if I wanted to transfer my info over to the Glendale program at no charge. I haven't done it and still unsure if I will. I'm waitlisted at A.T. Still for 2010 but guaranteed an acceptance for 2011. Not sure if I want to wait another whole year, :xf: that I get in for 2010. The lack of accreditation bothered me, especially when it comes to securing federal loans. I'm not sure if the branch campus is eligible because it's part of MWU or if they still have to graduate one full class. Anyone have the exact clarification??

Cost of living is SUPER cheap in AZ. Granted, you have to have a car. I'm from out of state as well and when I visited AZ the dependency on the freeway system was shocking. Still, apartments/condos/townhomes are inexpensive and because of how severe the housing bubble affected the Phoenix metro area, you can find a lot for very little.

What was your impression of the facilities if you've had your interview already? I did think that going to a brand new school with those facilities would be awesome.

Good luck! 🙂

Future - no problem. I am just as excited as the next person in line. You should research the campus, however, if you can. It is absolutely outstanding. I am not sure about transportation. If you accept the interview you will get an email with a bunch of hotels and shuttles. I got a blue shuttle from airport to Comfort Inn at discount for $22 (I am not sure if that's what you mean by transportation). I am moving from MN to AZ and driving so I will have my car. I did ask and was told that parking is free, which is a great amenity. I am just finishing my undergrad with 22 credits and am getting so ready to finish and start in June! I hope to see you there!

Hey Everyone!

I am super stoked to start at MWU in June. The cost of living is waaay cheap (I'm from CA so maybe I'm biased)
As far as accreditation goes, even though MWU has an accredited program at Downers Grove they will need to graduate a class before accreditation is complete. The reason for this is that the Glendale campus is not considered an "extension campus" of MWU is its own college. I know other schools like Franklin Pierce receive immediate accreditation status because the Goodyear campus is considered an extension campus and because of that, the classes offered at both of the campuses have to be identical. The benefit to MWU taking the time to get recognized as a separate program is that it gives the faulty more control of the curriculum structure of the program. I don't know if any of that makes sense... sorry if it doesn't. I definitely understand the anxiety about the program not already having full accreditation status but all programs at one point have to go through this. As far as the loans go, I believe that since the program is already in the "candidate for accreditation" status there should not be any issues with it. I already did the majority of my stafford loan stuff and haven't had a problem yet.
The facilities are ridiculously nice and I really liked the feel of the campus, it felt more like a college than an office building. All the PT labs are brand new and huge with flat screen TVs mounted pretty much everywhere (not sure how necessary that is but still pretty cool).
Good luck on your decision, feel free to ask any other questions!

Sorry if I sound naive, but do you all think it would be rude of me to call admissions and ask how many seats are open for the upcoming school year?

I'm planning on booking my flight for my interview for late April this weekend. It would be great to know what my chances are of actually getting in before flying out there.

Future55 - absolutely not. Just explain to them the situation and they will be happy to tell you anything that they can/are allowed to. Frankly, I was not in your situation so I did not have to ask. After our interview was over the Dean of Admissions told us the stats that I relayed to you. However, I can tell you that all of their admissions faculty is super friendly and was able to answer all of my questions even through my application process, in person when I was down there, and still now. Good luck. Let me know if you have any other questions!

i have an interview on april 19, i originally applied to the downers grove campus and then my app was transferred. any ideas on my chances of acceptance?

major: biology
bio gpa: 3.39
overall gpa: 3.42
prereq gpa: 3.38
gre: 520v 670q 3.5w

snshndrmr - You're stats look fabulous. They are similar to mine. I do know how to answer whether or not your chances are good or not of getting accepted, but what I can tell you is that you will love campus, love the people and your interviewers will be fabulous and non-intimidating. Moreover, you're stats are above their minimums so I think your chances of getting admitted depend on your interview, references and how many spots are left. Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions, I would be glad to answer them for you!

Hey! Just curious if anyone else is applying for June 2011 at glendale. Im flying out to AZ tomorrow for an interview. Anyone else?

I had my interview there a few weeks ago and got an acceptance letter last week. I really liked it there, the facilities are brand new, the faculty (that we met) were nice, Eder-who posted on this thread a long time ago- was there and he was really helpful in answering questions. Good luck!

Hi Steven. I wanted to ask when you applied to MWU Glendale? I applied in late October and provided the supplementary items in late November (2010) but nothing since except the usual "your application is complete" email. I'm trying to decide if I should contact them for a status.

Yeah I submitted PTCAS in September and was contacted in November about an interview. If I were you I would call them and ask what is going on cause you definitely should've heard something from them by now. I know there is another interview date on Jan 13th so maybe you could get in on that... Let me know if you have any other questions about them.

I contacted MWU by email asking for a status of my application and was told it was still under review and that if I were going to be invited for an interview, it would be in 2-4 weeks (before end of January, apparently). So, I will just stay patient I guess. Thanks for the advice! 🙂

Wonder of wonders: I got an email from MWU today to schedule an interview and I'm signed up for the 1/13 interviews.

And since you offered (😉) any tips to share about the interview process at MWU? I've interviewed at a couple of other schools so I kind of know the drill but any MWU-specifics you could pass along would be great.

ptootles - I congratulate you on your interview intvite! You will love the campus. As Steven said, I was at his interview. I just checked and I will not be at yours, however, you will have three wonderful lady classmates of mine, whom I get along with very well, to answer all of your questions and concerns during your interview day, as well as share a lunch hour with you.

I wish you the best of luck during your interview next week!

Ptootles I will be at the same interview as you! It is my first interview so far so I'm pretty nervous and excited. Do you live in Arizona or are you flying out for the interview?

Hey guys,

Im interviewing there on the 24th. 🙂 It is my first interview as well so Im really nervous. Any tips on what to expect would be great. I am flying out from Seattle..then flying out the following weekend to interview at Marymount in DC. Lovely that my only two schools that have responded yet have interviews in the same week..gonna be a busy one!

I live in Phoenix, actually, only about a 10-15 minute drive from MWU so it's really close... one of the primary reasons I chose to apply there. Please don't psych yourself out and get overly nervous. I was like that at my first interview last year and I think it pretty much torpedoed me so just relax and be honest (as others have said).

I guess I will see you next Thursday!

Thank you for the good wishes eder. I will look forward to meeting your classmates next week and I certainly hope I make a good impression with the interviewers. 😉

I have found this thread enourmously helpful so far!

I was invited for an interview at MWU-Glendale last week and scheduled it for later this month (1/28). It will be my first interview for this year. For those wondering, the PTCAS app was submitted to the program 12/21.

Seeing everyone's reviews on how their interviews went has definetly calmed my nerves because I've never had a PT school interview yet. It sounds like everyone is easy-going and friendly, and I have a good feeling that I will fit right in here!!

I'm flying in from Portland and will be staying at a hotel right off I-17. I'll be renting a car, so I wanted to ask if anyone knew how the traffic is in the morning going up I-17, and over to campus via 101.

When you say "...going up I-17" I assume you mean that your hotel is south of the 101. If so, I think you'll find the traffic relatively light going north on I-17 that time of day. Most of the morning traffic is going south toward downtown Phoenix. Also, most of the 101 traffic going west (which is where you will go from the I-17) will likewise be relatively light until you get to 59th avenue (the exit for MWU). I think the traffic will be in your favor for the most part (accidents, etc. being the wild card 😉 ).

I interviewed on 12/16 and it went good. I was a bit nervous but everything went smooth. There was a bit of down time where you sit around a little waiting for your turn but you can talk to other applicants and current students to ease your mind. Because of the holiday and school break it took extra time to get word but on Monday the 10th I got my acceptance phone call! Yay! I am not certain if I will attend since I would prefer to stay in Cali.
Good luck everyone.

Thank you for the insight on the interview and congratulations on your acceptance! I hope to be in your position by this time next month 😀. From what I've heard the interview is very relaxed, so I am trying not to stress over it. Best of luck to you in getting into your school of choice!

How does Midwestern usually let people know they have been accepted? I've checked my student portal and the accepted student checklist has been open for the past few days, yet I haven't received any official emails or phone calls notifying me of acceptance. Any insight?

When did you interview at Midwestern? Current students told us they received calls.

Apparently I've been checking my email too often and not my regular mail. I received an acceptance letter and it was dated for 1/18. I interviewed 1/13.

Congrats!! are you going to attend midwestern then?

Yeah I really loved everything about the campus and program. I'm just going to need some time to save up for that $1000 deposit 😱

Congrats to everyone who has been accepted into our program! You will not regret joining us here at Midwestern!

I look forward to meeting you all in June!

Oh you are so lucky! I interviewed that date and I haven't heard anything yet...I'm thinking my chances aren't good if you already got your letter 🙁
