Midwestern interview

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Anyone know if Midwestern CCP interviews in March, April, or is the class usually full by the end of February. Reason I am asking is because I doubt I am going to receive anything except an end of cycle letter since it has been over a month in which my application was considered complete.

what date was your app considered complete?

Yes, they do, they interview up until April I believe... then they start pulling people off the waitlist around June...

You were pulled off the waitlist in December, weren't you?

for CCP yes... i was already accepted to CPG after interview...

Yep. I noticed a few people here were waitlisted at CCP and pulled off a month or two later. Although UIC is my first choice, I was waitlisted at MWU and hope to be pulled at some point. It's a little depressing, yet ideal since if I were accepted too soon at MWU I'd have to complete the matriculation agreement before hearing a final decision from UIC. In that case, since I don't have $1000 to risk losing, I'd have to decline MWU's acceptance. At least I still have a somewhat functional backup plan on the MWU waitlist.

decided today that I will be going to MWU - CPG in the summer, so who's going there for sure?

I applied for housing pretty late, I hope i get a spot 😛

Hey Michelle! Haven't seen you on SDN lately.

I still don't know yet.. but looks like the financial aid for MWU-CPG is due March 7th for P1s!!! Did you already complete all the financial aid for them? I only did the FAFSA... I'm holding off on the rest for now.. Agh!

I am also having a tough time deciding... its down to UNM and MWU-CPG... decisions decisions....

well i got rejected from good old Pacific U today and so CPG here I come!!!

I didnt complete the FAFSA b/c I'm a Canadian student and hence not eligible. Did you receive any more mail after the initial acceptance letter? All i got is the letter back in Nov, and then an email telling me about FAFSA deadline. Nothing else? A lady in admissions said I won't receive anything else until couple of weeks b4 school starts, but a lady at registrar said that is totally untrue because I will need to apply for student visa and all that jazz...😕

And I just applied to housing recently, so I'm probably going to be on waitlist for that 😴

Looks like im going to MWU-CPG also. So do we have to send it all our financial aid info by March 7th? Also for those of you attending for sure, will you be staying at the on campus housing or other apartments? I'm not sure if I should turn in my housing application now or wait.

turn in your housing app soon!!

i waited until now and I regreted that decision a lot. It turns out if you apply for housing but withdraw your application before mid-March u'll get all your money back. If you wait until later, you only lose $300. To me that's not a whole lotta money b/ it'll save me from looking for my own apartment.

I spoke to the housing dude and he said that typically only 80-100 units available, and there's already 130 applications..!

Are you sure? After you deposit the $500 into housing its not refundable I thought... and if you withdraw your application entirely you get only $100 back from the matriculation deposit... At least that's what I got back after I withdrew...

No, I just withdrew mine last week and it said I would be getting the 500 dollars back within four weeks. But if you wait until after they make the decisions in mid-march than you only get 300 bucks back.

March 7th is the priority deadline for financial aid. There was an email sent out in January about it. This deadline is in order to be considered for MWU Need Based Scholarship, LEAP Grant, SEOG Grant, PerkinsLoan and PCL. Which will definitely help because the tuition is expensive.

I am also having a tough time deciding... its down to UNM and MWU-CPG... decisions decisions....

I'm having a tough time too! I'm still waiting to hear back from Colorado but I won't get news until 1st week of April.. Other than that, it's between MWU-CPG & Hilo.. 😕

Elvin will you be my neighbor? 😀 👍

When filling out the Grad Plus loan, how much was it that they would give us? They ask for that in the application, and i can't remember what it was.

Hey guys!
Check your Interact Now accounts if you interviewed Feb. 15th!
I just saw my "Accepted Student Checklist" 🙂 Yay!😀

You know it KBOUGHBE! I'm heading down on March 20th to scope out the apartments so you will have to let me know what you find when you go down there on the 14th!

There is a nice apartment across the street- its a Mark Taylor property I beleive it is called San Lagos... I used to live there- it is very nice and they give discounts to Midwestern students- and you can walk to school! If you get a roommate it isn't too expensive.

Yea I just filled out an application and got put on their priority list. I'm gonna go check them out in march just to make sure they are nice, but I was impressed with the website.

wow it is nice from the pictures! What's the safest/easiest way to find a roomate? I definitely can't afford this place by myself!

SDN?

Contact the admissions office. At my interview they told us they will maintain a database of students looking for roommates- that way you could room with a student in a different program... then you wont be competitive with each other and can meet more people that way!

The apartments are priced depending on what they face (i.e. the parking lot or the mini lakes with fountains). My husband and I lived in a one bedroom for 6 months before buying a house- they have awesome huge bathrooms and nice washers and dryers. There is also a "clubhouse" that can be used as a late night study room, and the workout room is accesible 24 hours!

P.S. I do not work for them or own stock... its just a nice place.

I got an invitation to an interview and quite nervous. Anyone has good advice? Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure if this thread is for CCP or Glendale? i think Glendale but I went to both interviews so .. Main thing is the interviews really are not that bad, I don't know if u have been on any yet I know it is easy to say and hard to do but try not to get yourself that worked up ahead of time.. anyway both were group interviews. CCP was 2 interviewers (both faculty) with i think about 6 interviewees / Glendale was 3 interviewers (2 faculty 1 student) with 3 interviewees. they mostly ask the same questions and go around to each applicant for their response except glendale mixed it up at the end and started doing individual questions. i was accepted to CCP and alternate listed for Glendale the opposite of my preference .. : / so good luck .. relax (try at least)

Anyone know how many interviews are held in March at Midwestern CCP?

I sent in my supplemental application right before the deadline Feb 15??? and got an email for interview on Feb 28.

They gave me the choice of March 14, March 27, March 28 (or 26)

Midwestern waitlists a lot of people who apply close to the deadline. As others have said, a lot of people apply there as a backup in case they dont get into their preferred school. Apply early and have a good interview and you're in.

As a faculty member in pharmacy, I take exception to these comments. While freedom of expression is a cornerstone of our society, making rude and/or disparaging comments about an institution is unprofessional and borderline unethical in my opinion. If you interviewed and had a bad experience, that is one thing. However, to speak for everyone who interviewed at a particular institution or generalize those opinons where they can taint an applicant pool is disrespectful.

As the post says, faculty members do read these boards and I share my experience here with other faculty colleagues and academic admisitrators.

As an example, "hello18" has an avatar of himself drinking a margarita. While enjoying a cocktail is appropriate, the picture can be construed any number of different ways including as unprofessional behavior. Did you stop to think that interviewers may be checking sites like this, www.myspace.com, or www.facebook.com?

The bottom line is to be careful what you post here. Someone may find it on the internet and ask you embarassing questions about it during the interview. It could essentially kill you chances of getting into a school.

I always thought that was a fruit smoothie with tapioca (i.e. a non-alcoholic beverage)? Actually, it also looks like it is being enjoyed at a restaurant I know. Where are you in that pic hello18? I've wanted to ask you that for a while now 🙂

it's called 'bubble tea'... a slushie drink that originated from Taiwan and is very popular in north american cities with a lot of asian immigrants (ie vancouver, LA). It's non-alcoholic and is just juice slush with tapioca.... i will miss my bubble tea when i move to phoenix

So...Back to the point of this Thread... anybody going for the interview on March 12th? I was there for the PCAT review course they had over the summer but I look forward to more time to learn about their program. Does anyone know if they have a Q&A session? Maybe get a chance to talk to current students?

Regardless of what was actually in the glass, it created a perception of impropriety among sevreal folks who saw the picture. When you interview, things like that can come back to bite you in the backside.

Thanks for your opinion Brian! But that is definitely NOT a Magarita... didn't know magarita's had black tapioca balls on the bottom... =/... but I can see how you might think that is a "cocktail"... in no way would I ever put myself in that situation where I would put an inappropriate picture up like that. Even if they did ask me what that picture was, it wouldn't be too hard to explain myself... in fact, I would probably invite them to a session of bubble tea after the interview =P...Thanks for your opinion though, I'll take it into consideration next time... But for those that are wondering what it is... its called Bubble Tea like most people have already figured out and is made of fresh fruit or some crappy places like to use powder "ack"... And to jpharm... its joy yees, haven't found a better bubble tea place than them.... in IL

Aha! Joy Yee's. I knew it. Would it happen to be the one on Halsted? I've been there a few times, but I've never tried the bubble tea. People have urged me to do so, but I always go for a strawberry banana smoothie.

Honey dew is my favorite flavor! But eating too many of those tapioca balls gives me a tummy ache. 😛

Hey everyone, I declined my acceptance to MWU-CPG. Maybe that's good news for those of you on the waitlist or still waiting for interviews. Good luck. :luck:

speaking of the waitlist..when are they supposed to start pullin from it if school starts in June lol...

aww koni... best of luck to ya =)

I got pulled off the waitlist at the end of Feb, and I decided to go Phoenix!
I looked into the online.midwestern website, and noticed that there are quite a few documents I need to complete.. right?
Did they give us any timeline?

Let's see.. I need loan.. so have to do those processes for loan
and.. immunization form.. how long is this one going to take? when is it due?
and.. housing.. I've already paid my $500 deposit.. so it's taken care of.
and.. I'm going to arrange my transcripts to be sent soon..

what else should I do?

im an international student so im not 100% sure about the financial aid for you guys..but i do believe they said to apply for that ASAP since it's first come first serce..get cracking!!

immunization i have almost all the shots already from wen i was a kid so i just have to get a titer drawn (going next week) to prove that i have immunity..if you haven't had some of the shots (ie HepB) you better start soon because theres many diff doses

transcript: still finishing up 2 pre-reqs, going to wait for that then submit all of it in May..don't think theres a rush for that

don't forget to get a physical exam (the form's on the MWU website)!! You might as well get that done while ur going to your doc for immunization.

anything else? i'm eager to hear back from MWU in regards to my housing....

I heard last week that on campus housing is already full and there's a waitlist or something

I heard last week that on campus housing is already full and there's a waitlist or something

ya there's prob already a waitlist... i emailed Jose Ponce back in mid-feb and he said there are already more applicants than housing available.. I am just hoping as other ppl drop their MWU acceptances more housings can free up, since looking for an apartment over the internet could be such a pain...

has anybody received anything else in the mail besides the original acceptance letter?

If you need help finding a place there are several of us that live in the area. I live about 20 minutes away, but used to live across the street, so I may be able to help. PM me if you want help with apartments.

thank you very much for the offer Alby =)

btw, does anybody know what the curriculum is going to be like in terms of rotation time? ie, are we suppose to go to an off-campus rotation site on a weekly basis since the beginning?

From what I understood, yes. Midwestern does not have a direct hospital/health system affiliation so all experiental components and rotations are off-site. They will however work with you depending on where you live to try to make it reasonably convenient - as availability allows. They also recommended having a car.
