Midwestern University MA Program C/O 2010

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I will be there Bman. Where you going to be coming from?

Could you guys state your stats please! I'm interested in this program.

TheCloser: I am coming from Howard Uuniversity by way of Daytona Beach, Florida. So the west coast is going to be a whole new world for me. What about you?

JMC117: I am on the pre-dental route, so my DAT was a 15, while my cGPA was a 3.4, and sGPA was 3.2

I will be coming from Northern California, near Sacramento. My science and regular GPA were 3.1 (about a 3.6 over the last 2 years). I am re-taking the MCAT next month but I got in with a pretty poor MCAT score.

I'm going to attend it too. Coming from UC Irvine.

Stats: cGPA 2.95
DAT 18 AA/ 19 TS

I got accepted and am 50-50 about attending. Coming from the Bay Area after finishing off UC Davis.

3.01 GPA, 19/19/19 DAT

I am glad to see that there are a number of pre-dents are going to be attending, or thinking about attending. Over my phone interview they told me that they didn't have a large number of people interested in dental school, perhaps this year they are trying to change it up.

Also impressed by you all's DAT scores...KUDOS to you all, yall gonna have to help me prepare so I can get scores like yalls!

3.0 GPA, 30S MCAT. Not sure Im going to go though cause I really want to get into an MD program at some point and I'm in at Scranton's MBS program at their new med school so I think that might be better for my future, and am waitlisted at some other places as well.

Is anyone attending the program that wants to enter an MD program? Or is almost everyone pre dental/DO?

If I do attend, then see you all soon!

I am glad the UC's are going to be represented down in Arizona. Go UCDavis Aggies! I plan on applying to both MD/DO but that all depends on how well I do on the MCAT seeing that MD schools screen heavily for high MCAT scores. JJMountain, keep in mind that its not the masters program that is going to get you into a MD, it will be you as the total package. So, if your scores are good enough then you shouldn't have a problem no matter where you go. It appears you already have the MCAT score for a MD, so as long as you do well at MWU then I don't see why you wouldn't get MD interviews (assuming you have clinical experience, research...etc).

I say we all party before school starts hahaha. Beer pong at my apartment! We will see which undergrad institution prevails! lol

Aww man, you just opened the wrong box...I am the true King of Beer Pong! Will gladly take the thrown on the west coast

Haha, I will own you guys in BPong. Someone should make a facebook group or something. I am headed down to Glendale on the 6th to check out my new apt and the school. Let me know if you want me to check on anything while I am down there besides the 110 degree heat.

Just by quick vote, where are you guys living? I am living in San Lagos apts.

I guess we will see who owns who in Beer Pong.

For me, I still am undecided where I am living, I know I have to live close to campus b/c I am not bringing my car. Those apartments that you are staying in TheCloser are pretty nice based on the website, let me know how they look in person.

Yeah, I will try to work on making a FB group.

congrats to all of you!! it will be a year you are bound to remember for sure!

Hi, i just got accepted into the MBS program. i am looking for someone to rent 2 bedrooms apartment with in San Lagos, Sage Stone, or San Prado. I am male. So if you are interested pls email me at: [email protected]
thank you

AZ trip was a success. It was hot, dry and sunny but MWU has a really really nice campus. I visited Western U down in Pomona, CA earlier this year and I have to say hands down that MWU wins in the campus category. I posted pics of the campus on the facebook group so check those out when you get a chance. I also checked out San Lagos and the apts are super nice. The only con I would have to say is that the rooms are of moderate to small size, even the living room. I would guess this would be due to helping keep the place cool in the summer time (less space = less AC?). Regardless, the apts are really nice and the pool and gym area are really nice also. The pool actually has a sand beach comming down into the pool. MWU is litterally right across the street from San lagos (and San Prado) and it would be effortless to walk to campus everyday. There is a shopping center right across the street from San lagos with a Home Depot, Staples, Subway, Panda Express, Dos Amigos, and a Bagel Place. Behind that center on the other side of the 101 there is a Frys and Albertsons grocery store with all sorts of smaller places to eat (Rubios, Pizza...etc). This shopping center is prob only 1/2 mile from San Lagos. Everything seems super convienent and close by. The Arrowhead mall is about 4 miles down the 101 and there is a Targer shopping center (with IMAX theatres) about 4 miles the other way down the 101. The Westgate plaza is about 13 miles from MWU and is really cool. I can imagine what it would be like on a party night or NFL game day. Downtown Phenoix is about 25 mins from MWU and thats about how long it takes to get to MWU from the Sky Harbor (Phenoix) airport.

Biggest differences from Northern California (Sacramento/Bay area): Air is really dry. I woke up with a sore throat because of this. I would recommend a humidifier until you adjust. People drive the speed limit on the freeway. Everyone is really friendly. Does not cool down at night during the summer (I believe low was 84 while I was there and the high during the day was 110). There are big cactuses everywhere. I read that it takes the giant Saguaro cactuses about 10 years to grow 4-6 inches so all the cactuses on the side of the road are ancient (it's even against the law to harm them). If you have any other questions be sure to ask or just PM me. Hope this helps everyone get a better idea of Glendale and MWU.

Thanks TheCloser....that really helped me. I was concerned about the surrounding area in regards to food and basic shopping, but you just cleared that up. I may not even bring my truck now.

i just gave up my seat for anyone currently on the waitlist. Im headed to BU instead, so good luck everyone!

I hope I will be so lucky to be called off the waitlist! Thanks. I hope if anyone else is contemplating giving up their seat they do it soon so I know what I am doing in the fall!

People drive the speed limit on the freeway.

This is because a couple years ago the Highway Patrol installed cameras on the freeways, particularly the 101, to prevent speeding and road rage. It was getting pretty bad (I'm originally from Glendale). A lot of people just memorize where the cameras are and slow down around those areas. Traffic tends to bottleneck there during rush hour as a result. But beware, cops also set up mobile speed cameras occasionally, so most everyone has just resigned to going the speed limit to be safe.

So that's what those cameras were on the side of the road (mostly under overpasses)? Wow, good thing I didn't bring my CA driving habits to AZ for those couple of days. It all makes sense now, I had a feeling that's what those were.
