Hi everyone,

I'm going to Midyear 2011 as my first time and I just have a couple of questions that might sound silly. First is when ASHP sends out the ID badge, barcode, or whatever to us. I thought we must have that to sign in at Midyear? And, I already made a reservation with one of the hotels listed on ASHP's Connection which is the official website for hotels at Midyear endorsed by ASHP. I received an email confirmation soon after that. I just never actually had my credit card charged for the reservation's fee though. My impression is that my credit card will not be charged until we get there in New Orleans. The card's info is just needed for reservation as of right now? I'm just a little bit confusing on how it works. Other classmates of mine booked hotels that are not on this list and they're all sure that they have a place to stay now. Lastly is how transportation will be available from the airport to the hotel and from the hotel to convention center. Since I choose to stay at one of those ASHP-recommended hotels, I thought they said something about having official shuttles to transport meeting attnendees in and out? And as far as going from airport to hotel, you guys who went before just rent a cab?

I'm pretty locked up in between my rotations right now. Haven't got so much time to prep anything for Midyear yet, and now it's just another 2.5 weeks away.

Thanks for any inputs!

They didn't say airport shuttle. They said shuttle from conv. center to hotel. As far as hotels go, you usually get charged when you get there. As far as airport transportation goes, there is a shuttle for 20 bucks each way, and there are public buses, depending on when you get there or back.

1.) Arrange shuttle transport to hotel. I don't particularly recommend the bus unless you're really cheap and don't mind a schetchy bus.
2.) Check into hotel. Present Id and credit card + 20 bux if you wanna try for an upgrade.
3.) Once settled, go over to the convention center and get yourself registered (that's when you get the badge).
4.) Don't forget a couple copies of your cv, biz cards, suit/appropriate footwear, positive can do attitude, and common sense. Try to check out the talks (especially new practitioner ones) and don't forget about the completerx open bar.

When/where is the open bar?

varies every year - go to the vendor fair as soon as you can and find the Complete Rx booth - they will have beads that you use for entrance into the party.

Really? I thought I already registered online via ASHP website and that was it. They just have to email me the barcode thing to scan at the convention center to sign in. Or that's what you meant?

Yeah where do you get this barcode? Also is cv necessary for third year? Or they just throw those papers away?

That's what I meant. You scan ur code or have them look you up, then they give you a badge and goodies eg swag bag and events going on.

Who would you be giving CV's to? I was given the impression P3's were meant to be seen and not heard since all of the potential hirers will be dealing with the herd of P4's.

I honestly don't know what to expect all I was told when I was second year was to go to ashp if I'm interested in residency. I wanted to know what to bring and which network meetings I'm supposed to go ...
