I always figured that the people writing you letters, gave you the letters to turn in. But I’ve seen some people say they wonder what a person said about them, so does the writer have to turn the letter in online? Or do they give it to you, and you just can’t open it, and then we submit it to amcas when it’s time?

Sorry for the silly question, just needing to know! 🙂

THey will upload it directly. You are not involved in that process except for sending them the link via AMCAS/email

Ah, okay thank you! I’m only a sophomore, is it too early to start an account an AMCAS?

Lol yes too early
FWIW, I opened my account in June, submitted July.

1) AMCAS does not store letters ; you can only have letters uploaded at the beginning of the cycle you are applying
2) you can have letters loaded to interfolio and stored there
3) letters should be be “fresh” that is dated the year you are applying
4) if your UG school offers committee letters, you should find out the specific process at the school. The vast majority of medical schools require, recommend or prefer committee letters

+ On the off chance letters from professors are not current dates( but from the year prior etc.) but if you are also getting a committee letter (which is current) that’s also OK

You get EITHER a committee letter OR send in individual letters; dont do both
Oh
Yeah I should have included/ the case I was referring to is when the committee appends letters to the committee letter. One of my PI letters was not current but the committee letter was from this summer so OK

To get a committee letter, you follow whatever guidelines the UG school has. Individual letters attached are up to what the UG school decides and the dates wont matter to the medical school.

Thank you for all the information!
