  1. Resident [Any Field]
Hi everyone,
I am a ECFMG certified MD thinking to join the Army to apply for a military residency program.
I'm going to talk with a recruiter but I'd like some true stories.
Should I talk with somebody else?
Where can I find more information?
How hard is to get into a program? If one doesnt match, what happens?
how long is the commitment?

I know that I'm asking too much, but please be patient and try to understand how big this decition is...as for everybody else.

Thank you all 👍

Thanks J-rad....it is what im doing 😉

Any help?

There's a whole lot of information pertaining to students that went through military med schools, then going into either military or civilian residencies. Im currently a FMG(foreign medical grad)/U.S. citizen, that is ECFMG certified looking for more information on "how to" apply for military residency. Also, I served 4 years enlisted with the Air Force a few years back. So Im not sure who to talk to. Is there a particular recruiter Im supposed to get a hold of? Trying to find one of these recruiters in the Tri-state area, is harder than trying to find gas for 0.87 cents/gallon.

I have no idea about foreign medical graduates, but this link should connect you to people that will with the Air Force. I found it on a Google search a second ago.

Good luck.

Unless I'm mistaken, FMGs need to complete a U.S. internship year and become licensed, they then can enter the military as a GMO for a tour before they are eligible for applying to the military match.

Not 100%, but I thought FMGs would enter the regular match and enter serivce under FAP. WHY ow WHY would you enter the military match. Based on these posts, many military folks try hard to get civilian deferred. I'm scratching my head on this one, unless the op feels it is easier to match into something more competitive (cat ortho or rad) under the military military match since most FMGs enter IM, FP slots.

That'd be another path. The OP was asking specifically about how an FMG could do a military residency.
