I know people on here typically recommend updating schools after a semester of good grades, but what constitutes a semester of good grades? Does it have to be all A's?

By the end of this semester, I'll have taken 24 credits since applying (5 A and 3 A-) which works out to ~3.89, and I'm unsure whether that's good enough to update schools with (for reference, I have ~3.55 AMCAS GPA with upward trend).

In your case, this is huge, given it's 8 classes and given where you are coming from. I'd send it ASAP -- it's pretty significant.

Those are NOT minimum grades.

Yes, they're worth reporting

How did you complete 24 credits since applying, summer and fall?

I tried to send an update letter as I received several As this semester in higher level science courses. My app has no higher level science classes and several Pre reqs done at a community college so thought it was relevant. The school however said they do not accept and/or consider updates pertaining to grades as they only consider verified coursework and grades from AMCAS. Should I contact Amcas to try an go through them? Or any recommendations? Thanks for any advice.

p.s. a little annoying given that the courses were taken at the undergrad campus, so not like I’m making it up

This totally sucks, but I'm afraid this will be a dead end at this school. Once your AMCAS app is verified (this happened at the very beginning before your primary was transmitted to any school), it is locked in for the cycle, with few exceptions. Adding course work after verification is not one of them. The only way to get this in front of them would be through an update. If they won't take one, there's nothing else you can do.

AMCAS will not change or correct:
  • Course names, titles, or numbers.
  • Updated grades and hours for certain types of courses that were left off the application and did not appear on any official transcript at the time of processing, including:
    • Current (CC)
    • Deferred Grade (DG)
    • Honors (H) AMCAS does not add the Honors type if omitted by the applicant
    • Incomplete (I)
  • Any other sections or items in your application.
