Anyone heard anything yet? If anyone got interviews last year, when did you receive an email? I dont like waiting and checkin my email all the time!

I have one on the 9th as well. Pretty excited, reapplicant! Herme, are you in the morning group or the afternoon?

Still waiting on that "super important" email from them about parking and transportation 😀

I can forward you mine if you really want! 🙂 It doesn't really matter what it's about, if it's for the interview it's exciting.

I'm in the afternoon group. I think they want me there by 10:30 or so. How about you?

I am in the morning one, 7:45. Have you heard anything more about the interview? I know one of professors, he didn't say much, just to smile and look them in the eye.

Wow, that is early-although I suspect I will be up pretty early that day whether I need to be or not. haha! I haven't heard anything from them this year. i interviewed there in the fall of 2007-seems like forever ago and this will be my 3rd application-and it was not too bad. I just went through the SDN interview questions the other day, and if I remember correctly, everything they asked me came right out of there. Nothing too difficult. Some things that make you think a little, but not too bad.

Earlier on this thread though, some people mention that the interviews will be different this year-2 people interviewing you with a lot of "what would you do in this situation" type of stuff. So who knows if any of the questions on the SDN interview section will even be relevant.

Sounds like the professor you know gave you the best advice so far-"Smile and look them in the eye!"

Keep watching the thread and please let me know if you find out more! I am dying to get in there!

Herme, do they tell you after what you need to improve on your application if you don't get accepted?

Yes, they told me the usual-improve science gpa, shadow more. Here's what I don't understand...I did everything they asked and more for my 2nd application (last year) and I didn't even get an interview. I am suspicious that a committee LOE that didn't get submitted to AADSAS until 7/27 which caused my AADSAS app to not get mailed to them until September pretty much killed me.

I am very optimistic about this year though. I actually have some meaningful volunteer work in dentistry, plus my personal statement was killer this time around-at least I thought so at 3 in the morning when I finished it.

haha.....i thought mine was a killer too until i read it again a week later....

how come september mailing is bad? do they have their decision on all of the spots done by then?

Well, from the info I've gathered on SDN and from dental schools I've applied to, it seems that interviews spots are limited, and are given out on a first com first serve basis, so if your app isn't complete, before the spots are gone, then you are left hoping seats don't fill up.

In my case, although I submitted my AADSAS app in mid-June, AADSAS didn't do anything with it because my committee LOE wasn't there. Once the LOE was submitted on 7/27, then AADSAS started processing it. So by the time the 4-6 week processing time was up, it was mailed to the schools, and then the schools took whatever time they needed to process it before review, none of the schools I applied to began looking at me until mid-September-which is not good. Sure they still review and give out spots all fall and even into spring, but you have to assume there was already a huge stack of applications waiting to be reviewed by the time they received mine, so, given that my stats are not stellar, it doesn't help my cause. 🙂 Plus, from what I hear, the majority of fall interview spots are offered by the end of September, so again, not helping my cause.

But it a new year!:xf:

Where is the list of interview questions?

What about the interviews post dec 1? do those interviews even count?

I am in the same exact situation as you last year....I think i have to look forward to next year's application.....so since last cycle..youve been taking extra science classes?

Well, don't let me discourage you! I didn't have much to show for shadowing or dental exposure, so I think that was not a good thing. I took a couple of upper level science courses with a 4.0 avg, and have been shadowing at a dental office weekly, so I have well over 100 shadow hours now. I also volunteered as a dental assistant on a medical missions trip in another country-so I've been busy improving-which is kind-of all you can do! But keep on working on it and you will get there! (At least that's what i keep telling myself! Haha)

Post-Dec interviews definitely still count. I personally think that the bar is much higher for post-Dec interviews, due to the fact that so many have already been interviewed that probably have great stats. And Since I don't have stellar numbers, it's hard for me to compete. But that's just my deduction of things.

Just FYI, last year MN interviewed a little less than 1 in 5 applicants. Don't know if they will stick to this number this year. Every day their is an interview session means less interviews still available. And, they were VERY limited in interviews post-December 1.

Does this mean they have a very good ratio of people interviewed to open slots then? Are they closer to a 3:1 ratio? They arent like some schools that hand out interviews like crazy then I take it.

Got an email from them yesterday saying i have an interview Oct 7th! I confirmed immediately and they said they would email me the details closer to my interview date! woo woo!

What are you guys doing about parking? Did that email of important additional info did it mention anything about parking reservations?

I havent gotten another email from them yet, I have a feeling it isnt coming, although parking wont be an issue since I have a friend who lives 5 minutes from the school!

For those who interviewed yesterday, mind if I asked the questions that the interviewers asked you? Thanks in advance!

I don't think that it is very fair to give you the questions just like that, but I will give you the format. 2 admissions people interview each applicant. It was pretty laid back, but they dont know anything about your application, so you really have to sell yourself. They questions aren't too bad, in fact my favorite part of the whole day yesterday was the interview portion.

I would agree with dudeman. There is no way to prepare. Just be yourself. But my favorite part of the day was GETTING TO USE THE ADVANCED SIM LAB!!! They are doing some research presumably to determine whether or not one's performance in the sim lab correlates to their gpa and DAT scores. So we got to prep a Class I amalgam and the computer graded our performance--Very cool! I sure hope I get into this school!

By the way my interview is on the 18th (next week). Still haven't gotten that super important email but I am flying to MN anyways 🙂. Anyone else interviewing there that day?

Herme, I think that i sat next to you in the financial aid portion.

I think maybe. You were from Idaho, but moved to MN? Went to HS with that other interviewee?

So if I applied mid July to Minnesota and still haven't heard back, does that basically mean I'll be rejected? Or is there still a shot?

Have you tried calling them to see if you are missing anything or the status of it?

Quick question: interviews are closed-file this year, right?

I have just landed in Minneapolis. So far looks great and it is very very similar to UW campus and area.
👍👍

Isnt it hot today?? I was walking around campus and sweating like a pig....

Well, I just came back from walking around and it wasn't that bad (I took shorts with me after seeing the forecast lol).

Gotta say, campus is very nice. I also went to the Moos tower and walked around there a bit. Great atmosphere. 🙂

just wait until you reach the clinic...its even nicer....

you should have holla-ed or something...i was in moos tower at the same time interval too

It went pretty well. I liked the school and the program a lot. Students seemed to be happy and nice, sim labs were awesome, building itself has tons of resources. I was kind of bummed that for out-of-state peeps tuition + fees come up to 70k (that is NOT taking into account room, board, travel, etc).

btw, it was great meeting all the interviewees from the morning session. I'll see two of you on Oct 2nd.🙂

Do you start the 2 on 1 interview right away? or after tour?

Its weird they arent sending that email on time. I interviewed there last year and got the confirmation email with all the facts immediately after I confirmed the interview. I received an invite to interview this year this past monday, and haven't received the confirmation yet. Also, to those waiting on hearing from them... my app was sent to the U on 9/14 and got an interview invite 9/28. so its a pretty quick turnaround

Just call the admission's department at the school and talk to them. It's possible they sent the e-mail and your spam filter blocked it to sent it to your junk mail. It's also possible it was overlooked on their part...they are human. Just give them a buzz. Good luck with the interview.

How long does the real interview take in MN? I heard you sit and talk with them for about 40 min. Is that true?
