Hi I am new here and I have a quick question. Will medical schools look down at me for taking most (4 of 6) of my minoring classes online at a community college? I have certain electives I have to take at my university so I am not able to take my minoring classes there.

As long as you do well, I don't think medical schools will care.

They only care about the pre-req's

Are you sure about that? I heard that a minor will make you different from other applicants

Who did you hear that from, on the pre-Allo threads?

I am telling you they don't give a crap, and it's pretty useless for jobs to to be honest. Just take courses and pick a major because you like it, and do well. Good grades without a minor is way better than average grades with a minor.

I interviewed at a bunch of different places this cycle, and my minor was not brought up once.

If I were you, I would just do a minor in something that is interesting to you, or useful to you. I did mine in professional writing because I spend a lot of time putting together manuscripts, so that minor worked out well for me. Don't do a minor because you think it will make you look unique, no one will ask you about it.

I wanted to minor in psychology because I think it would help with treating patients and it would increase my gpa as well and I also am interested in that field. In order for me to minor I have to take a bunch of summer classes, so I am still debating whether it is worth it or not

We don't care what your major or minor is, only that you do well in them, no matter where they're taken.

Lol in no way does a couple of psych classes teach you how to interact with people...

Yea it sounds like you really shouldn't do it. A ton of summer classes and no real use.

In a way that is a good reliever. Any suggestions on what I should do in the summer? I am taking one elective class and volunteering at a hospital, but I want to do something more.

I minored in communications, and my communication still sucked. What improved my communication was people telling me I sucked at communicating, and me making a concerted effort to improve.

The same thing will happen with treating patients. You will probably be pretty bad at first (as will I be) and then you will improve with experience. Classes won't help you.

A part time research gig is cool, even if it's not paid it will silk get some stuff on the resume and will hopefully open some doors in the future.

I get that, but I got an AA in psych from my community college, and I really don't believe that it will help me interact with patients, but if you are enjoying it, and you think that it will raise your GPA, go for it, but don't expect it to blow some adcom's hair back.

Lol ok thanks. My question about raising my GPA is should I take more classes in the summer or retake some of the classes I got C's in but they are elective classes that I am not sure will be helpful.

So you didn't get any Cs in the classes that are prerecs right? I don't think that you can retake classes that you got Cs in anyway. I would just move on and make sure you crush it from here on out. Just come up with some good reasons why you did poorly in those classes. I think it is a waste of time to retake classes that you got a C in.

At most it will show that you had another interest. Similar to your interests in ECs that you participated in.
