I was arrested and charged with furnishing alcohol to a minor because one of the people at a party I had, happened to be under 21. I have no previous arrest record or even a speeding ticket and my lawyer thinks their might be a chance for the charges to be dropped or for a diversion agreement with community service and a fine to be expunged from my record. My question how much will this affect my licensing if am convicted/not-convicted, especially if I have no other incidents.

So you have to ID check everyone at a party? Did you directly offer the person the alcohol?

I'd be amazed if this affects licensing.

Every state board looks at things differently. Felonies are big problems, but I would not overlook your situation. I would talk to someone about this, this charge is something that is related to a substance of abuse and people may look at this a little differently then a speeding misdemeaner

As someone stated above, it all depends on your state bop. I can count at least 5 people that have had DUI convictions since Ive been a pharmacy student, and the board took no action on their licenses. I had a rotation at the BOP. I discussed this issue with the director, and he believes everyone deserves a second chance, as long as they are honest and report the violation to the board of pharmacy. If run ins with the law become a problem then he takes action on a license. hope this helps

We are all human and make mistakes! And as long as you learn from mistakes..... One misdemeanor doesn´t flush all of the hard years of work in pharmacy school down the toilet!

anyways, even if you get it expunged from your record you still need to report it to the board of pharmacy when you apply for a license. Also if you a apply for a job to the VA, you need to disclose it.

Hope this helps put your anxiety to rest 🙂

I think as long as your truthful and tell them about the charges then hopefully you'll be fine. It might be different if you had went into a liquor store, bought some alcohol, and handed it directly to someone under the age of 21. However, this was a completely different situation. While it was your party, you are allowed to have alcohol at your house. And alcohol is legal. I'd maybe emphasize in the explanation if you had no idea this person was under 21 or if you did not realize they were drinking.

Good luck! I feel for you.

in texas i know someone who didn't tell them about some speeding ticket and it showed up when they renewed the license and they wanted a letter saying why he didn't mention it. but it in no way would have stopped the renewal

so they want to know that you're not hiding even the simplest, stupidest thing i guess

It won't prevent you from getting licensed, but it WILL become a royal pain in your *****. I had an minor in possession charge that was dismissed, and even though it was dismissed I still had to send in certified copies of all judgements, court documents, etc as well as several letters explaining the charge. All from something that happened when I was 20yo and living in a different county. Talk about irritating. Not sure if your situation is different since it's a type of diversion, but definitely be prepared to deal with more paperwork now.
