B/c interviews are on weekdays, we'll all be missing classes. How are you guys going to explain to professors that you may miss their once a week class 2 or 3 times in a semester?

Sorry if this sounds dull, I'd just like to get an opinion from you guys.

I was just going to tell the professor straight up front that I will be missing classes because of medical school interviews.

hmm yeah, i'm worried that after one or two professors will just be pissed off. i've scheduled two interviews (haven't scheduled the 3rd), and made one for a tues, the other for wed. i'm trying to keep them from being two tuesdays in a row, or even two tuesdays in a month if i can help it..

Don't think that medical school is the only thing people are interviewing for. There's also law school, grad school, etc. The profs have most likely seen it happen many times before. Given that it is a decent reason, most profs won't care. Some will. In any case, try to schedule so you miss the fewest classes in a given day. Also, try to give the prof as much notice as possible.

Yeah, I was going to email this professor before the semester starts.

Generally professors will understand unless you get one of the mythical "I hate medical school profs" that I seem to hear about but have never come across. I never had a problem. I scheduled a lighter course load for that semester, as well.

Luckily I was taking my PI's class, and by that point my PI was unofficially my personal coach on the application process 🙂 so he basically outright told me he didn't want to see me in class around my interviews to prepare for them properly, haha.

what i used to do is not show up from the first day of class, so they wouldn't know I existed.

but seriously, if its a big class, no attendance, then DO NOT even bother telling the professor at all. you won't be the only one missing class.

now if its a small class, the prof knows you, attendance/participation is graded/there's and exam, let them know well ahead of time.

if a professor doesn't like it, take it up to your pre-med committee/dean. the success of pre-meds are used to recruit students every year. but i wouldn't even take it that far. personally, i would just take a lower grades on these nominal things and try to beat the curve on the exams.

missing WORK, on the other hand... you could lose your living, your power to buy plane tix etc.... (good thing i work in an understanding lab🙂)

okay, great advice guys 👍

i just wanted to get a feel for what others are doing. i'm missing the 3rd day of classes, so im missing the first lecture of a class 😱 i'll email the prof tho

my schedule's light in terms of class time, but not necessarily workload, but i'll deal :xf:
