It appears one of my two LORs will likely arrive a day or two past the listed deadline of 6 Oct. Has anyone had or heard of a similar experience, and if so what's the consequence of this (or for that matter missing any of these supposed 'firm' deadlines) likely to be?

The deadline is October 6? I thought it was October 15. Which service are you? I don't think it would matter terribly for something to be a day or two late, since I've been told (for the Army, at least), that those deadlines are rather soft ones, at that, and that you can still change your rank order list until November, if you call and ask nicely.

They aren't read anyway. The selection board uses a double secret system to make picks.

AF. I'm not terribly concerned since the entire application seems like a formality, the points tallied up in your favor or not regardless of LORs, PS, etc. Appreciate the feedback though.

I though you guys hanged people from yard arms (what ever those are).

We still have some troublemakers get put on bread & water in the brig. Keel hauling is another fine Navy tradition, not currently in style, but maybe it'll come back.

As for the LORs and the deadline ... that may or may not be kind of a soft deadline. I know that Chief Pelot (who managed all the GME2+ stuff for the Navy a couple years ago) was very very helpful and accommodating to people who were deployed and had trouble getting supporting documents in. He was the kind of guy who'd help you out even if you worked 500 feet away from his office in building 9 and had no excuse. The GMESB doesn't meet until late November. I'd bet if your LOR got in soon it would find its way into your file. Call whoever it is that's managing the applications and ask nicely. At worst they'll say no.
