I got an email from NYMC today stating that they have not received one of my references. I thought my reference had sent it in way back in September, but apparently they have not received the letter. I am interviewing there next week. My question is: do you think this would adversely affect my application? I mean, these guys gave me an interview BEFORE my letters were in... now less than a week before my interview they are saying that they don't have one of my letters? Even if my prof sent it in soon, it won't get there till after my interview because I live in Canada and mail takes forever to get down to the US. Arghh!

You could carry it with you in a sealed and signed-over-the seal envelope. Can't see any reason why they wouldn't accept a hand carried letter.

Could you carry a copy with you (in a signed, sealed envelope) and have your professor mail a copy as well? That way, if when you get there they won't take the letter, it won't matter since one is being mailed... or you could call and ask them, I guess.
Sorry, I guess that's not too much help...

I guess I will have to call them Monday and ask... but thanks for your help... I don't think I will see my prof till Tuesday since it's a holiday on Monday here and my flight leaves Tuesday afternoon.

I had a similar problem with USC (where I go to school too). I had the rec letters sent from main campus to HSC and after a month had not seen on the status check that they had arrived. Another month passed and since I was in Vermont at the time, I called in and they said they hadn't received them and I should go ahead and resend them (or carrry them in). I had them resent and they still hadn't received them two weeks later when I went in. They wanted to verify my SSN and when they did, they discovered that the academic advising office had put the right SSN down, except for one digit's being an 8 instead of a 9. They then immediately found my first packet too. 😡

So, maybe you should make sure they never received it. It could be a clerical error.

Moo, have you thought about shipping your reference by FedEx? I think they can usually ship things by the next business day (I think even for Canada to the States). I guess you would have to wait until Tuesday to send it, but it would probably get there on Wed morning. I guess it all depends on when your interview is next week... would Wednesday be too late?

Good luck with your interview!! 🙂
