Missouri Interviews

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm also eagerly awaiting our letters/calls for OOS acceptances. I LOVED Mizzou - it was always at the top of my list for schools and visiting it only solidified it's place. I think UMo and NC State are my top two schools, if only because of the price tag attached. UPenn is my in-state school, and a freaking great one at that, but if I can save a lot of money on tuition (not to mention living expenses) by going elsewhere, I'm in. The fact that I loved Columbia, the students and staff, curriculum, and facilities at UMo are all bonuses in my book. 🙂

Does anyone know if Mizzou just does snail mail, or do they do calls as well? If only snail mail, that'll be agggonizing since my university's mail system takes FOREVER.

I thiiiiink I remember seeing in last year's thread that they did calls for OOS students. I'd have to go double-check to make sure, but I want to say phone calls. Of course, who knows if they'll stick with the same system this year or not!

Not to be a Debbie Downer here, but it seems to me that we ALL fell in love with Mizzou. I went and checked the acceptance list for last year, and only like six or seven people were on it..:scared:..

I know you DIDN'T just say that. I'm just gonna choose to ignore that, for the sake of getting through the next 10-ish days. 😱

don't freak out!!! there might just be more mizzou applicants represented on the forum this year. good luck to everyone who interviewed this year! i know it's a long waiting game, but you'll find out very soon!!

i'm not sure if anyone reallllly wants to know this but i looked up last years stats because i was curious.. looks like its snail mail all the way 🙄.. on a positive note there seems to be one IS person admitted that year haha so im guessing not much of SDN was represented..

The University of Missouri-Columbia:
rouxeny (I:1/11, A: 2/5 snail mail OOS); Jaydog12 (2/6/09, OOS); IBrakeForForest (I: 1/10, A: 2/6 snail mail, OOS); Pistol Pete (I: 1/25/09; A: 2/21 snail mail); OnceBitten (I:1/10, A: 2/23 snail mail, OOS); cowyakkin (I:1/9, A 2/21 snail); W2BVet (I: 3/2, A: 4/24 snail mail, IS)

Miss Kathy told us at lunch (on 1/17) that 664 OOS applicants applied, 175 of those applicants were invited to interview, and 155 of those invites actually signed up for an interview.

Now here's the more important part: she said they have 44 OOS seats in their 2014 class, and they usually admit around 120 OOS students to fill those seats. I'm sure many of these students will be admitted late in the game/off the waitlist. But I'm just thinking that 120 out of 155 is pretty damn good!

So, everyone keep your hopes up high :luck:

Can anyone else confirm these stats? They are almost too good to believe, but I promise this is what she announced on the last day of OOS interviews . . . 😀

You're my new favorite person.

if this is true this makes me smile 😀😀😀

Did she not make a similar announcement at your lunch? Or did you not attend it?

She didn't make any such announcement at my lunch on the 16th. In any case, I 😍 you.

EDIT: Makes you feel really nice to be one of those getting the interview in the first place.

She did not make that announcement on my interview day 1/8 but that sounds ideal! I wish she did because I have been going crazy these past weeks. I guess it makes sense because I'm sure people turn down their acceptance if they are accepted to their IS or if Mizzou is not their top choice. I did read in a previous forum that someone was OOS and #15 on the waitlist and she/he was offered a spot and accepted it. I'm really keeping my fingers crossed for Mizzou because it love every single aspect of the school/program!:xf:

Do you think I need to email Kathy an updated list of courses for this spring semester if I changed a couple classes I put down that I was planning on taking? I don't want to be annoying because I have already emailed her to make sure she recieved my fall transcripts.

hmm good point. My classes are definitely a little different. Though I don't really see why it should matter, as long as you have all required courses out of the way. Anyone else?

That is awesome and you are now my new favorite person 😍😍😍.

Kathy definitely said this at my lunch on 1/16 as well. I loved Mizzou and if I get accepted anywhere else, it'll be a tough choice!

To the question up above regarding in-state interviews, I'm actually not sure how that works. I know a lot about the OOS business side of things because I was VERY OOS, but in-state is a mystery to me, too lol. Hopefully an in-stater will stop by. 🙂

Don't fret about the snail mail, guys. I got a call from a student representative the day after I received my acceptance letter, so, if I hadn't gotten to my mail before then, that would have spoiled the surprise for me lol. They like to call you to make sure you got your letter and to see if you have any questions and offer you a student contact at the school, so don't worry about late mail, and keep an eye out for unrecognizable area codes on your phone. 😛

while I'm not "confirming" the whole 120 accepted thing, I sat across from an interviewer at lunch (thanks mom for doing that on purpose.. 🙄) and he said that they usually admit ~ 3x as many people as they have seats. 44 x 3 is a little over 120, but it's still the same ball park.

anyway, now this does probably count on the waitlist moving a lot, so unless this whole love for mizzou thing is new, lets hope the past stats continue!

Does anyone know how the waitlist will work at Mizzou? Do they notify you that you are on the waitlist by mail?

They do, indeed. And, if they continue with the trends of the past, they also tell you what number you are on the waitlist in the letter.

So while we are waiting for our letters, I want to hear why you would love to go to Mizzou. I want to go because they have one of the busiest food animal clinics and do a lot with beef cattle (one of my main interests) Also, I like the curriculum because I'm very much a hands on learner. Like everyone else said, the professors and students were very nice and helpful during the interview weekend- I especially liked the large animal professors, they seemed like a hoot 😀 Plus it will be slightly milder than WI in the winters...

I'd like to send thank you notes to my interviewers, but I was looking through old topics that said that in previous years, mizzou didn't want thank you notes sent. I didn't read anything like that for this year though - did anyone see it for this year and I just missed it? I don't want to make an etiquette faux pas by sending something I'm not supposed to, but I wanted to let my nice interviewers know that I appreciated the time they spent talking with me.

When I asked Kathy for their addresses after my interview, she said that they absolutely will not accept thank yous. She said that they know we appreciate them and what not and there's no need to write them. She told me that if I were to write one, it would stop at her office and go no further. I hope this helps!

Well that settles that lol. Thanks! I find that approach strange as I was raised as a good thank you noter, but whatever!

I find that strange as well, but it's nice that they are honest about it.

Shoot, I already sent one. Oh well. Hopefully this won't count against me.

It won't. They just want to maintain an unbiased opinion, so it won't actually get to the interviewers. Definitely won't count against you though.

man wouldn't it be awesome if they sent out the letters this week instead of next week?

sorry to bump the thread for no reason, but I'm just so ready to know! and it doesn't help that my roommate literally has been getting tons of random letters/large envelopes everyday and it's the most disappointing thing in the world to not see my name on it!

Yeah, it would be SO awesome!! But I've already gotten my hopes up too much when it comes to Mizzou. 😳

oh me too... I need to stop obsessing over it or else I know it will suck 10x more if I don't get in. While the odds are technically good for anyone, I still am worried I'm getting my hopes up way too much!

I too check my mail hopefully every single day, in the event that they miraculously send decisions out early. I keep imagining myself at Mizzou, until I catch it and remind myself, "you need to get the acceptance first!!" Urgh, COMON

I want to tell my family/friends about the large # of student Mizzou has gone through in the past to get to their final class, but then I think of how much it'll stink if i'm not even waitlisted...so i've kept quiet about the numbers 😎 and continued to follow the mailman🙂

Has anyone talked to Mizzou's admissions lately to find out when exactly they're planning on mailing acceptances? I know Kathy originally said the first or second week of Feb, I was just wondering if anyone knows which one so I know when to start harassing my mailman! 😀

I'm guessing they're going to wait until after Feb 1st. because that is the deadline for transcripts.

Does anyone know if our status pages are going to change on the website? When I got an interview, a message came up on my page informing me of the invitation. I didn't know if it was the same for acceptance/rejection/waitlist information.

Yeah, I'd agree with the February 1st thing. I'm sure they have their minds already made up on most of the applicants, but that last transcript could probably make or break somebody on the list.

And that's a good point about the website - I totally forgot that it had changed after the interview invites. It'd be great to know sooner rather than later!

yeah that would be really nice.. considering my mail takes an ridiculous amount of time (still haven't received my illinois interview letter yet) boo

I am just really hoping that everyone (besides SDNers) has been on time with submitting their transcripts/GRE scores. I don't want to wait any longer than necessary..it's already killin' me a little 😕

Do you guys think Missouri is actually going to send out rejection letters, or does everyone that gets interviewed get put on the waitlist?

Good question...

I know this was already asked by somebody else a few days ago, but maybe if I ask again the thread will bump up and someone will magically swoop in and tell us the answer (or maybe I should just learn to be more patient 😛).

Anyway, does anybody know if we will be notified via snail mail only, or if they've additionally utilized the status page in the past? I'm dreading that if they just use snail mail, and send out the letters mid-week, I won't get it "fast enough" since I'm leaving soon for another interview . . .

Any info would be greatly appreciated 🙂

They never bothered with the status page after interviews when I applied, but they definitely will give you a call when they expect you to have received your mail if you're accepted, so you'll know if your in even if the mailman doesn't quite make it on time.

Okay, truth time...who's stalking the mailman today? 😀

:luck::luck::luck::luck::xf::xf::xf::xf:

Good luck everyone!

Here's the conversation I hope happens today....

Person 1: "well Bob, every applicant got in their transcripts, so lets go ahead and put the letters in the mail today! no sense in making them wait any longer."

Person 2: "great idea sue! I'm dropping them in the mailbox right now, and I am even paying extra to overnight them."

Person 1: "isn't it interesting how every person on SDN got an acceptance?"

Person 2: "not interesting at all! I expected that to happen."

Person 1: "well I'm hungry, so I'm going to go make a sandwich."

something along those lines is what I'm feeling

Lol!

I wouldn't think we'd get something for another week or so, no? I assume they need to evaluate and yell at anyone whose transcripts are late. I hate that I applied to only late notifying and late interviewing schools. Not one of my better moves...patience is a virtue I guess :-/

HAHAHAHA! I love it!

Yeah, a week sounds reasonable to me too. But I can't be the only person on this thread who is looking a little more eagerly at the mail than last week 🙂.

I have been eagerly checking my mail this week! I think last year people found out on feb 5th...thats this friday so it could be this week🙂

UGH, I am going batty. I want to call and ask, but I don't want to be THAT person..any other volunteers? Haha!

I've been thinking that same thing and going batty as well... I just want to know now!!! I don't have the guts to call but it would be nice if someone else more gutsy than myself did 😀.
