So I started working in a volunteer clinic in June and had already worked with the clinic for 2 weeks before I submitted my primary, so I put it down as one of my experiences. I had listed 150 hours for this activity for June-August since I figured I would complete more than 150 but didn't want to overshoot. Unfortunately, I just found out that the clinic is shut down for the rest of the summer and I only completed less than half of the hours I had listed on AMCAS.

Should I send an update to each school later this month and explain that I only did 50 out of the 150 hours that I listed and put the reasoning or just leave it? I didn't try to lie on AMCAS, this was just a really unexpected situation and I'm not sure what to do now.

Do you have other clinical experience? How much?
When does the clinic reopen and can you return then?
Might you make up the hours during fall term, or if it's not near campus, over fall and winter breaks?
Did you distinguish between current and future hours for the volunteer clinic or just bunch them all together?

Yes, I have about 100 other hours of clinical experience in a hospital and 50 hours in another clinic.
The clinic opens based on need/funding, so the volunteer supervisor said she would let me know if it reopens in Fall so I could volunteer more but that's not guaranteed.
I had volunteered for 20 hours in this same clinic last summer, so on AMCAS I had listed 20 for last summer and then 150 for June-August and said in the description that I had already completed a week here and planned to spend 8 more weeks in the clinic.

The missing hours are not then critical to the success of your application. But I do think that attempting to be open and above board reflects well on an applicant.

Where a suitable prompt is provided on Secondaries, I suggest mentioning that "Due to funding issues, my XXX clinic site closed after I completed 50 of the projected 150 hours. Reopening is not assured, but I'll return if able."

For others, send an update if their website says they're accepted.

If they are specifically prohibited, call the school's admission office and ask if you can leave a message that will be added to your file.

For any schools not covered by the above, if asked, you can report you made an attempt to update the info, but, regardless, will attempt to make up the missing hours when/if the clinic reopens.

Okay, I will do that. Thank you!
