hey guys,

so along with being pre-med im also a part time model for different brands and have been featured in some small print ads and commerical modeling campaigns. i was also scouted by modeling agencies in ny and after attending their conventions decided it was too much of a time commitment and a somewhat unstable lifestyle. however, i still love fashion and runway modeling etc and do it on the side on a small scale. just wondering if talking about it would hurt me on secondarys.. would they think im not dedicated to medicine?

Interesting day I guess..:eyebrow:

craigferguson, than 1234whatshisname, and now model...

But anyway, if you're not indeed trolling,
I would consider putting it there as long as you have a legitimate reason for having a passion for that job.

Lol sorry this isn't a troll. I previously posted in WAMC forum when I was deciding my school list. I usually dont post much and just lurk instead.. but any other input would be appreicated.

haha sorry then.
I think having a passion for something is generally looked upon favorably, so if you can explain that in a way that portrays you positively then yeah, I think it would be great.

Pics or it didn't happen (if you're a dude, NVM)

If you can speak intelligently as to your motivations for pursuing the career and the lessons you learned from it, put it on your application. If you did it just for money, leave it off.

I would only talk about it on a secondary if it had anything to do with your passion/dedication/motivation/etc. for medicine.

It also depends on what the school is asking you, but I mean I wouldn't talk much about it unless it met the criteria above.

Thankfully the swimsuit portion of the supplementary application was pulled in 2003.

<serious> OP: Do not leave it off. Definitely mention your modeling career. It is unique and interesting. If possible, tell an amusing anecdote from you experiences as a model with some descriptive imagery to make it remembered. Being remember by the adcom is a definite victory.

Haha sorry guys but pics would give me away IRL. And its basically like a hobby/past time so i was gonna write it in my interests/hobbies sections on a seconday i got. im not gonna mention it under work experience or anything but i wasnt completely sure. lol thanks for all the input guyssssss

Doesn't your modeling work give you away IRL to all kinds of strangers anyways?

not at all...do you have any idea how many models there are? unless you bring a picture in the magazine/billboard campaign you were in ha

On a secondary response that asked about something unique that I could contribute to the student body, I talked about an unconventional EC (planning a large party event for my university) which I said specifically in my response was unrelated to my professional interests of medicine--I got an interview a couple days later. I think it really depends on how you portray your EC, which I personally think doesn't need to tie back into "why medicine". That's why you have your personal statement. It's just important that you show what you enjoyed/gained/learned/can contribute from engaging this EC, so the adcoms know that you weren't just frivolously pursuing something that has had no impact on you.

Is this really an extracurricular activity if you got paid?
Isn't it more like an interesting job? If so, then you should definitely list your employment history. Holding paying jobs is a plus and this seems like a legit work experience.

You could list it on the AMCAS as "employment" but even if you don't, you could write about it in a secondary. There are many adcom members who would put that application in the "I'd like to meet this applicant" pile and that's where you want to be.

Exactly.
You should definitely mention it. I listed my employment in the film industry on my application and it was brought up favorably during my interviews. One of my interviewers happened to be a big fan of a TV series that I’ve worked on and others asked what it was like working with certain actors and actresses.
