Montefiore/Einstein internship and cars

Does anyone know if a car is needed or helpful during internship at Montefiore? Also, do people get cars cause that walk to the subway is rather scary especially at night.

I was told by several current residents that it was a requirement. Public transportation is just not reliable enough given the hours you will be coming and going from the hospital.
