I'm so pleased! I've been accepted to USUHS for the 2006 entering class. I love the school, I love Bethesda, and I'm very happy about this.

Good luck to anyone else applying!

Incidentally, I've somehow managed to post 10K times on SDN 😱

This is awesome, great job! I just sent you a PM actually...didn't know this post was here heheh. That'd be great if I had the chance to join ya!

I agree. Enjoy your interview. Bethesda is an awesome town and USUHS is an awesome school!

Thanks, you too! I've got my fingers crossed for you in the rest of the process this year, too.

**** hot man! Good to see one of the "good guys" win one for a change. Did you get a USAF slot, I assume?

Congratulations! Believe it or not, I (yes, me) almost went to USUHS for med school.

(Actually, I feel bad about "congratulating" anybody on successfully entering this hellish nightmare of a profession called medicine. It's like congratulating somebody on their pancreatic cancer.)

Yes. Stole one early.

Thanks for the congrats! I do appreciate it from someone who knows.

Wow, I wouldn't believe it!

Luckily, the human psyche helps me to believe that sure a lot of smart people have advised me against medicine and definitely against military medicine, but it'll be totally different for me!

Thanks!

I still intend to do HPSP, despite the warnings of everyone on this forum. Perhaps that is why they're the smart people. 😀

Yeap, it's funny but I actually live about 15 minutes from USUHS 😀. My martial arts school is in Bethesda, about 5 minutes from the school. I love the city and its nighttime atmosphere 😀.

It was the fact that nobody had a single good thing to say about military medicine that drove me away from it (I was originally interested in the lack of debt). On the other hand, a solid 5-10% of people had something good to say about medicine in general, which apparently was good enough for me. I now realize that 5-10% of people in medicine are, in fact, heavily medicated.

Congrats. I guess if you're happy, I'll be happy for you.

Maybe by the time you're graduated, finished residency, and ready to retire after your tour on occupation duty in North Korea, military medicine will have straightened itself out, but I somehow doubt it.

Deep down I gotta think: "this poor guy has noooooo clue . . ."

Anyway, best wishes. Maybe at least you'll get to work in the "New Walter Reed!"

Oh, by the way . . . ten THOUSAND posts?!?!?
What the hell have you been doing for the last year? Obviously not loggin' a whole lotta flight time! 😉

RMD ZE-RO years; EIGHT months; SEVENTEEN days remaining

I've got a clue. I don't know exactly how it's going to suck, but when I called my GMO flight surgeon buddy, he's heading back from a residency interview to head out to the desert for 120 days on Monday. Getting notified sometime around Friday for 4 months starting Monday... yeah, the military can suck.

Thanks for being happy with me! It's important to enjoy the times when it doesn't suck and not let those get buried in the knowledge that it will indeed suck again. I think that's true of life in general, but maybe others have had different experiences.

Good luck to everyone else!

Congrats Moose. I admire your positive attitude and patience throughout your (jeez has it already been 2 years?!?) permission-for-transition process. Having almost enrolled there myself, I actually *sometimes* miss it, believe it or not. Have fun!

Just had to drop in and say congrats again, Moosie. 😍 👍 I think I've congratulated you now in three different forums. BTW, major chocolate party for you in the non-trad forum. 😀

Congrats Moosey!! Ugh, I can't believe I just said that. I can't believe I'm actually congratulating someone on becoming an AF doctor. What's wrong with me?? I really must be loosing my mind. 😱 That's it, I'm off to the Psych ER. 😛

Great news! I like to see some people fired up and I'll still be around when you get out and hopefully in residency when you are on rotations @ Wilford Hall... Glad to hear you got AF slot and if you have any other questions let me know
👍

Hey, congrats! I saw this thread from Mousie's post in the Lounge. I don't get to the military forum that often.

Congrats on your acceptance! :hardy:

 :hardy:

He's going to be a pilot AND a doctor? Well done, MoosePilot.

There's so much to love about USUHS and being in Bethesda--I'm sure you'll enjoy it every bit as much as you think you will. 😉

Congratulations. :luck:

Sounds like the makings of a great astronaut to me. (Seriously, one of my pilot-physician classmates was selected as an AF/ NASA astronaut candidate.) You should be next. What ya think Moose?? 😀

Moose! Congratulations!!! You'll miss the cockpit every once in a while, but you'll love the ride. You have a great perspective and you'll do very well. Maybe you can post your journey on the BLOG section?

Don't listen to all the nay-sayers and don't doubt your decision. I don't regret my giving up my jet for medicine, nor will you. Your journey is into medicine, not simply military medicine, a life long career that extends beyond your USUHS obligation.

As I left flying to start med school, my Skipper (now Admiral) said to me, "Remember what you learned in aviation: the mindset, the speak, the comraderie and carry it into medicine; it'll serve you well." I think it was good advice and I pass it to you.

Fly safe and enjoy the countdown to your new career.

Congrats Moose I am sure you will be great in the AF and medicine.

Congrats! You know my feelings about staying in the military (like, you have to be f-ing crazy!), but the first acceptance is always the best. You're going to be a doctor, you FOOL!

HAha.

🙂

holy cow! it just occured to me that I actually know you. 🙂

No, I wouldn't say that.

I would say, "Be careful what you wish for...you just might get it"

Well, Moose, you got it. I hope it will be everything you want it to be. 👍

I've already really enjoyed Bethesda during my recent visit. There is a lot there to recommend it. I have rarely had as much fun as I had there 🙂

As you will be reminded often during the first year, you deserve to be there and wouldn't have been accepted if you didn't.

Advice: I'd make plans for a house-hunting visit so you don't have to be working on that while you're trying to navigate through your first year.

:luck:

I'll second that. I didn't close on my place until after classes started, and it was a bitch.....

Congrats on the acceptance Moose. 👍 See you next year!

Back to biochem..... 😡

CONGRATS MOOSE!!!

I remember following your posts since my last year of college, maybe we will finally have the chance to meet. Hell, I probably saw you when you came for an interview... I even gave a tour, but none of my applicants were priors.

This school is great, you are certainly getting a great education. I will have to give you some pointers on the first year experience hehe =).

CONGRATS AGAIN!

I was the pilot in Air Force blues. I think there was only one of me 😀

Which service are you in? I remember the tour guides lining up for tours. I picked a girl that I wanted to get closer to... does that make me shallow?

I'm definitely going to do that! I want a house very badly. Someplace to have bbqs when the class has time. We'll see how realistic that is.

I am in the Air Force too =). I didn't see any pilots. Anyways, doesn't matter hehe. CONGRATULATIONS!!

P.S. I dont know about shallow, but you certainly hit the ground running in that area

Looks like it'll be a 20+ year retirement package for you, Moose. Congrats on the acceptance! You'll find medicine almost as fun as looking through a HUD and holding a stick...

almost.

Biochem is a bitch too. 👎 How many times can I make myself give a crap about fatty acid synthesis? Answer: ZERO!!!

+pissed+

I'm glad someone has just been committed longer than me! I'll see you around.

I've seen that. I think it will be between 400-500K, based on what I've seen. We'll see if I can find something and then talk my bank into it

400K-500K is cheap housing. That is the entry level price for off-water housing on my Island and would get you a 1BR condo.
