Yea...I'm completely stumped...

Is it just me, or is it just really hard to think of moral/ethical dilemmas to write about...

I guess my life is really that boring.

Hahaha ditto! Which school are you writing for?

Sadly, I can't think of any hobbies/interests/activities that I am passionate about or love. I have no hobbies. I am the epitome of boring.

Ok here are some ideas,

have you ever caught anyone stealing or anything severely illegal? What did you do?

Was there ever a time when someone(meaning a cashier) gave you the wrong change, i.e. more then they were supposed to give you back? Did you return the extra amount they gave you back or keep the money?

Have you ever taught anything? If you've been a teacher of some sort, have you had a situation where a student asked you to do something that was against the rules? How did you deal with the situation? (This is the situation my friend used.)

If you come from a doctor's family, has someone asked you for prescription drugs that they didn't have a prescription for and how did you approach the situation?

These are just a few examples.

If it has to be medically related how about either "the right to die" or that old humdinger, abortion. Medically speaking, there are so many things you can write about. On a personal level, see the above posters.

Its probably UPitt or Duke that he or she is writing for. If that's the case, no it doesn't have to be medically related. I know this because my friend would communicate with me when she was working on secondaries this past cycle that went by. That question popped up in both Upitt and Duke's secondaries with almost exact same wording.

If you are applying to both of those schools, you could almost use the same essay for both schools with regards to that one question.

chicago/pitts

has duke sent out their secondaries yet?

and thanks for the suggestions!

Another thing, the things you talk about could be something that happened as a kid.

Here are a few examples, when you were kids did you ride the school bus? If so, did you ever catch kids smoking on the bus much less at school? Did you do anything about it like inform the proper authorities (bus driver, teacher, etc).

These are just some of the ideas. I hope this helps trigger something that you could use.

I don't think they have. I just know it is one of their 6 essays is that question.

There are like 5 other essays however they don't change so if you'd like to see the prompts you can look up last year's secondary prompts thread started by Pemberly and then go to the 6th page and look for the link to the post which mentions the Duke prompts. Hence, you can get a head start on the essays if you wanted to do so.

lol thanks for all the great suggestions...

but geez...my life really IS that boring 😳

That's how my friend felt last year. It was only at the last minute that she remembered something that happened while teaching. Think back to all the things that have happened in your life, including back to childhood days. Maybe ask your parents if they can help jog your memory of anything that stands out.

when i wrote about mine for pitt last year, it was really weak. i didn't have any huge dilemmas to talk about so i tried to turn a minor dilemma into something worth writing about. PM me if you want to know what i actually used--it wasn't that good and i still got in. don't worry if you didn't experience anything major--i think they really just want to see your reasoning or what you learned from the experience to know that you're capable of thinking about moral/ethical issues.

This is the only time I feel lucky that my life has been completely unboring!!! Great fodder for secondary essays. Aside from that, I would have preferred to skip most of the crap I've been through...
