Just wanted to see how many Mormon Predents we got in here and where they all want to go. Im from Las vegas hoping to go back East. either UNC or VCU are my top choices but I hear Louisville has a good Mormon dental student population.
 
I'm a BYU predent and I would like to go to either Louisville of USC. My only interview invite as of now is Indiana so my fingers are still crossed!!!
 
Louisville has a great mormon dental student population. I am a grad student at Louisvilles chemistry dept. and am a mormon. Would like to go to dental school here or UK more the later due to residency. I also think UK exposes you to more hard procedures.
 
Fellow Mormon here, I am applying to Pacific, Case, UPenn, UNLV, USC, and UNC (like it says in the signature). I hope to end up at Pacific. Good luck everyone.
 
I knew most of the graduating class of 2005 at Creighton and I believe that year there were 15+ Mormons in the class. Seemed to be a pretty tight-knit group too. Oops sorry, didn't pay attention to the "go back east" part.
 
Hey I'm in Las Vegas. I've applied to UNLV, Temple, VCU, Creighton, Louisville, Nova, Case, Meharry, and Indiana, I like the clinicals at Case.

BTW, I have interviews at Case and Indiana, but my Case interview isn't until Jan. 31st. I kind of wonder if it will be worth my time... But who knows.
 
I am at Temple, and we have over 30 Mormons from all over (17 from Utah). So there are a ton here. You can't go into a room anywhere here and not have at least one Mo in the room.
 
Maybe the question should be, where aren't there a lot of LDS guys?! Quite a few LDS guys at Ohio State. There are tons of LDS Med Students, Optometry students, Law students, and other graduate students here as well.

There are a crap load of mormans here at Case. They are a bunch of alchoholics which is kind of weird though.

I'm a mormon too. Every school I've been to has a big LDS population and everyone knows them. I haven't heard anything bad about any LDS people but maybe that's cause I'm one and they didn't want to say anything. VCU's my top choice.
 
So wow...there's a lot of Mormans around...they're taking OVER!!!! I guess that's not the worst news I've heard today.
 
half of the male students being interviewed at my buffalo and ucsf interview were from BYU.
 
what is the deal with all these mormons? At my interviews there have been a bunch of them. Are science classes easy as crap in colleges at Utah cuz it seems like it.One of them was even talking about Polygamy and all this weird crap. Talking to a few of them, I asked them a few easy questions and they couldn't tell their asses from their elbows. Who knows...
 
Hey now...if schools in Utah were that easy, I'm sure someone would have caught on by now and that would be weighted in the AADSAS GPA calculator. I bet they get lots of interviews from their 16000 hours of service and crap...also most Mo's that I've met are rediculously nice. That's why they get the spots...or maybe like that South Park episode...."the correct answer is the Mormons...yes thats right" lol.

Yeah the science classes are easy as crap here. So was the DAT.

yea if you have a 4.0 science gpa..you can get away with a 17 DAT

Man, I am so glad I took my science classes and DAT in Utah. They were cake. I saw pre-req tests from a friend from out of state, and I was amazed that they had to know anything besides the periodic table.

In all seriousness, in Utah, education is very, very important. We (Mormons) feel that you should be as educated as you can be and we pursue that. Utah spends less money on education, but consistently scores in the top 5 in the nationwide tests. God gave us brains, and he expects us to use them. When you get into dental school, I bet you a pop that at least one mormon graduates in your top 5.

Too bad (1) you cannot bet, and (2) you cannot drink the caffeinated soda.

BTW, there is a difference between brains and studying hard.

Well then I'll bet you a pop that at least 4 non mormans graduate in the top 5😀 ....all the mormans I've met at my interviews have been nice so I'm glad they'll be around at D-school.
 
First of all its mormon, not morman. Second, why would someone come into the mormon thread just to bash them?

I think that can be considered classless. Do you go into the asian thread or the UCLA thread or the persian thread and bash them out of the blue?

We call it soda here in AZ. I just think mormons like family life and there is no better profession to be in than dentistry if you want to spend time with your family.

That's a true statement. However, my whole family are native Arizonans and for some reason we say "pop." 🙄
 
Everyone in Philly calls it soda. They mock me and my wife at work for calling it pop. But we will stand strong and won't give up the fight. It will always be pop to us.

I know a couple of Mormons. Don't Mormons believe that Joseph Smith rode into the Salt Lake valley on a white buffalo, or something like that? I heard that's in the Book of the Mormons.
 
No, Joseph Smith never made it to the Salt Lake Valley, he died in Illinois

Actually, Maryland has dropped down to #3. Rumor has it that it's because we got more Weber State guys than normal over the past couple of years, rather than BYU guys.
 
If Utah predents are so great why don't they get there own dental school. Its just crazy the amount of Utah students. Come on Utah.
 
Back to the Op's topic. How many of you LDS guys or gals have called local LDS people to stay with them at interviews? I haven't done it at all, but I know of many people who have. I was just a bit uncomfortable with it. What about you all?


For all you non-Mormons, Mormon doesn't always equal being from Utah. And sebsequently, Being from Utah doesn't always equal being a Mormon.
(its just more likely)🙂
 
i've crashed at people's houses for my interviews, 2 I knew, the other 2 were strangers but alumni from my undergrad so they were cool with it. Other than saving money and getting an easy ride to the airport, its been very helpful to talk with the D student to get a feel for the school
 
I didn't mind crashing at local members houses. I did it at NOva and Case. It was a little awkward at first, but it was just like being at home after a bit.

Why should we pay taxes for a dental school and take on that type of burden when you are already willing to do this and let us in?

You can look at it the other way why should other states foot the bill ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~(keeping my comments to myself).
If you couldn't tell I was joking. I don't know why I am in thread anyway. Mormans scare me.
 
I've had a couple people stay at my place for their interview. Not because they were Mormon but because they were at the same undergrad as me.

The fact they they were Mormon made it easier to take a stranger in though. I didn't have to worry about them getting drunk, stealing, beating my kids or swearing (like the 'F' bomb (no guys not 'frick')).


I know that had they not been Mormon they would have done all of the above.😱

I love blanket statements.
 
I'll bet you a SODA that 2 out of those 5 are Orthodox Jews. Those guys are crazy smart. no i am not Jewish, or Mormon, I drove through Provo once and man did that scare me, I couldn't find a single bar.

There are bars there...they just don't serve alcoholic drinks 😛
 
It is actually a dairy farm, that is what we call a bar here in Utah. Milk is the drink of choice.
