I'm doing my undergrad right now and soon I will have to declare my major/minor.

Would it be most appropriate for me to work towards a chemistry major and bio minor or bio major and chem minor?

Thank you!

ps... my grades are stronger in Chemistry

It really doesn't matter what you major in as long as you get the prereq's, a good GPA, and good MCAT scores. That's a good question though, I've always wondered what they like the best - even though everyone always says either one works.
I'm a Bio major, Chem minor right now, simply because I like Biology more than Chemistry. And on top of that, I am better at Bio then Chem, meaning a higher GPA.
I'd say go with what you like the most as your major because they like people to follow their interests and to be "well rounded" rather than just a cookie cutter premed student...
hehe major in art

Do what interests you the most.

What no counselor ever clarifies is that you DON'T NEED a relevant major to get into graduate schools.

I chose to do Cognitive Psychology Major and Bio Minor. I had much higher grades than my peers majoring in Biology (my school is very competitive in Biology), and I also had more time to engage in other activities at school as well as time to just have fun.

Choose a major that you like the best and just complete the pre-reqs.

As my friend's dad told me, you can be a dance major and become a doctor (as his friend had done).

I am Kinesiology. Wants to apply to med school, dental and pharmacy. Is it possible. Do you think kin is a good choise for this. I am kind of confused now.

I don't know - my counselors have all been really good about telling me. Even when I was still in High School, and more so now.

Hey - question for you guys - is it better to major in something you really like and be well rounded, or major in the sciences (which I also like) and get a better MCAT score because you know the stuff better?

i might be ******ed but why is MCAT stuff in a Pre-Pharmacy forum? I mean lol 😱

you basically have two options:
A. major in what you like best
B. major in what will give you the best grades

I think it is best to major in something that interests you, even if it is not a science major. It could set you apart from other applicants. Plus, you will actually enjoy your time in school rather than suffering through something you think the adcoms are looking for. It might take you longer to finish pre-reqs if you major in something like spanish or history, but that's ok. You may find the journey to pharmacy more enjoyable studying something a little more non-traditional.

Yes, you must get a good MCAT score for pharmacy school.

lol.

😀 hehe sorry, I was looking at all threads and didn't pay much attention to which forum it was. *shrugs* 😳😛 What can I say? It was a blonde moment. Still a valid question for premed though lmao

Major in what you enjoy. You might want to do something different than science if you want. Trust me, you will do more than enough science during pharmacy school.

You got it all wrong, most appropriate majors are:

- history

- liberal arts

- music

- fashion

- business

You seriously think about majoring in Chemistry or Biochemistry ?

Why ? Why ? Why ?

Chances are when you graduate and apply to pharmacy school along with several thousands of other chem/bio/biochem majors, a liberal arts major will come along and they will pick him over you because you are:

-not well rounded ( you were too busy studying 6-8 hours a day instead of changing the world around you )

- took too many science classes since you had to work like a slave rather than taking fun 'exploring" classes like knitting and art that expand your knowledge horizon.

- he has a better PS since he's been learning how to write for 4 years while you studied pchem like a *****.

I probably sound really bitter but it's because I am having a mini-life crisis after realizing I just wasted 5.5 years of my life getting a degree that no one seems to appreciate.

I totally agree with you. You don't want to be one in the horde of Bio/Chem/science majors. Studying hard sciences only gets you so far in my opinion.

For me , the best decision I ever made was to switch out of Biology before I even started my undergrad studies to Psychology.
