I am torn between two dreams: I want to run my own therapy clinic and I also am interested in academia. I understand that it may be impossible to pursue both dreams. Let's say I chose to teach, would an MOT, OTD, or PhD be sufficient to become a teacher? Now let's say I want to run my own pediatric clinic. Which degree would be sufficient for that?

DOT will be okay in most places for teaching but some may require a phd. also-dot is usually a doctorate in clinical practice not gained by writting big papers or whatever.

@jessjlstar:

You need an OTD or (more preferably for research-oriented programs) a PhD to teach in graduate OT programs.

You need an MSOT or MOT minimally to practice as an OT. If you want to run your own peds outpatient clinic I would suggest some business background also, particularly management, accounting, finance, and marketing.
