I was recently accepted to MSMC for fall 2011, they dont do interviews... does that reflect negatively on the competitiveness of students they accept? of the school? I know it does for med but dont know about PT. What is the school like? I have a few other interviews and am debating if i should wait it out and not put down my tuition deposit any info would be awesome.

here's a link to a thread about it:
http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?p=10361915#post10361915

from what i read, it's a pretty good school even though they don't conduct interviews like most of the other schools.

If you don't mind me asking, when did you submit your application and when did you hear from them? What were your stats? I'm playing the waiting game and I'm getting really anxious because people have heard from some of the schools I applied to but I haven't heard anything yet

I submitted my application 10/14 and i just talked to my dad last night and he said he got the letter in the mail yesterday, so he read it to me over the phone.
My stats are eh.

Overall GPA: 3.3
Science GPA: 3.34
GRE:1060 V:510 Q: 550 AW: 4.5
Observation hours: 100+ mostly outpatient, inpatient in progress
I have interviews at: Samuel Merritt University, University of the Pacific, Andrews University and Western
Rejections: Northern Arizona University, Franklin Piecre
Waitlisted: Regis University

My problem was I didnt hit a 500 on the GRE Quantitative till I re-took it this month (january) so a lot of schools didnt even hardly look at my app cuz I didnt meet minimum in time, so next year (if i have to reapply) Im sure Ill have no issue getting in.
Also, I havent finished second semester G bio or G Physics, im doing that this summer before the program starts, so my science GPA will go up, which will help if i dont get in.

Dont freak too much. I applied to Loma Linda and half my friends have already gotten interviews and I've yet to hear anything. It shows they are still considering you since you havent heard a rejection yet- thats always good news. Where all did you apply?

sportyg610,

When are your interviews at Samuel Merritt and University of the Pacific? I have interviews there as well.

For MTSM they have a hard deadline and a soft deadline does anyone know how they weigh those that apply after the soft deadline?

Thanks for anything anyone is able to provide... Good luck to everyone

My interview at SMU was this last saturday 1/22 and my interview for University of the Pacific is March 4th. When are yours?

Hii 🙂 Quick question.. I was just curious to know when did UOP contact you for your interview?

Sportyg610 Kind of ironically I too was at SMU this past Saturday in the morning group and will be at UOP, well I go there for undergrad now, but at the interview March 4th as well. Let me know if you have any questions because my gf is a first year there and I have talked to a professor.

Trinaboo, they contacted me in late December, hope that helps

Hi sportyg610,
I know current DPT students at MSMC and I actually work with a few post-grads. From what I hear in talking to them and visiting the school/talking with the dean of the program, MSMC has a strong educational program with a curriculum that is very clinical (rather than research) based. There are many pros/cons to going to a small private school like MSMC. Although it does not have a large underlying hospital based program like larger research-based universities do, MSMC still has an advantage in its location being in downtown LA with its campus near many hospitals around the area (don't be fooled though, its campus is still very campus-y even though it's in the city... you kinda feel like you're in a different world once you cross their gates. Think east-coast old-town architecture on forest-like lawns). But back to the academics... MSMC also has a smaller-medium class size with a focus on student learning. I think MSMC definitely stands strong compared to other small private programs because it inevitably competes with USC (it is literally across the street from the USC undergrad campus, and I have heard that USC professors are often guest lecturers as well). However, it definitely has its drawbacks in lacking a research foundation and lab-based facilities (i.e., cadaver labs, etc.) From what I have gathered, overall MSMC has its strength in its clincial and practice-based curriculum, whereas other larger research institutions draw their strength in more renowned faculty and research opportunities. To answer your other Q about interviews, I personally believe that any healthcare program should first interview its applicants, but I know MSMC choosing not to conduct interviews is fairly new implementation in their application process so it shouldn't reflect negatively on the pool of applicants.

Alright, well hopefully that helped! It really depends on what you're looking for in your DPT experience. Good luck! 🙂
