This has been on my mind for some time, and I'm curious what others are thinking/deciding regarding it. When are you guys/gals going to move to your dental school's areas?

Midwestern(AZ) starts in late August, so I was going to try for mid-August, I'm just worried renters won't want to start mid-month, nor do I really want to move a whole month before school starts. I guess worst case scenario I'll end up motel'ing it for a few weeks till Sept 1st rolls around. Ugh, this is worrisome!

Our (me + hubby) thinking was to move as soon as possible, because we are either going to Houston or Baylor and we're both from Texas anyways (doing undergrad out of state). Although... the summer will be a beast. But it'll give us time to set up shop and get accustomed to the area, kind of ease in to everything...

Or just start august first..then you won't be stressing to find a place. Go on a trip over summer to scope out a place and say you'll start then.. that's what I plan to do. In the end the cost of a motel over 2 weeks is probably the cost of a months rent..minus the having to move around twice.

I will probably be leaving on August 1st, and arrive in to Connecticut around August 5th. Orientation is August 15th for me, so that gives me 10 days to settle in with roommates, explore a little bit. I hope this works out (I don't see why it wouldn't).

Do you know where you are going to live in Glendale? I am looking for apartments online but of course this is easier said than done. Everything seems like a reasonable place to live when you are looking at it on a computer. Have you been down there to check apartments out?

shoot, im pretty surprised @ all of you whom are looking for apartments. I'll be living in campus housing, and probably moving in the day before orientation because of work..

Well I do have a roommate, so
I may see if he can get there on the first, avoiding the motel thing.my personal issue is that I'll be out of country till mid August.

Your orientation makes more sense being earlier...oh well. who are you going to live with,A friend, or another student starting?

Have no clue, looked at their off campus list and at crags list so far, and yeah everything looks good online...I live in hawaii and still work, so I can't go there very easily. I tried to get on campus but they said I was on A waiting list for now. :/

That was my plan, both because of work and travel.unfortunately I got an email saying I didn't get in and was on a waiting list and that I should start looking off campus.

There's probably no harm in moving to town half a month early and just getting to know the city, hit up a bar or two, etc. But then again, you'd have the next 4 years there anyways. But hey, goodluck and congratz on midwestern!
