Okay, med school is four years, two of which are basic science so you stay in the same location. When doing rotations do you always rotate close to home, or do you have to move? If you have to move, what do you do with your apartment and all the stuff that?s in it? Or do you consider your apartment your home-base and just get another apartment close to the site. It seems to me that rotating at various hospitals/clinics would be a huge inconvenience if they were not close. I would like to hear from those with experience in this area.

Thanks

Depends on the school. At CCOM, all our rotations are in/around the Chicago area (within about an hour or so of each other). There can be a lot of driving, but nothing that would require you to actually move.

At some other schools, you are placed in a region where you do all your rotations. This might require you moving to that region before 3rd year, but then I think you're pretty stable for 2 years. I believe (but could be wrong) Nova and DMU are like this.

Depnds on which roation block at NSUCOM you are going to do. If you going to sun coast or orlando regional yeah your moving but if your at broward or palmetto not so much.

I know UHS when I interviewed there they said there were a lot of sites all over the US they go to. I believe the samn type of thing was at LECOM. They had lots of sites just not many in the immediate area all were drives away. Yes I consider an hour drive one way to be excessive cause that a 2 hour communte a day and on top of a possible 50-80 hour work week. UGH.

Also, AZCOM bounces you around quite a bit. CCOM was stable in their immediate area and I believe COMP is fairly stable as well.

Even if it's possible to be stay in one area, it's certainly a good idea to do audition rotations at hospitals you may want to match at, or places which are strong in your desired specialty. I would think most rotating students have to move for at least one rotation, no?
