Im moving to Georgia in 2 months after practicing in CA for 3 years. I got my license through residency, and have not taken the wreb/nerb/crdts etc. I know I would at least need 5 years for reciprocity. Does anyone know if the state makes any exceptions to the 5-year rule or is there way to practice without taking the crdts? Thank you!

Contact National Board Examination - ADA Joint Commission on National Dental examinations at 1-800-621-8099 or Clinical Exam - CRDTS - www.crdts.org or (785) 273-0380.

I would call and explain the situation. The more they hear how people want to move there and practice within a few years of graduation the more likely it will be that we can get this changed sooner.

Please be sure you inquire about this before moving. Although you got your license by way of residency, many states do NOT offer reciprocity unless you have taken a regional clinical examination. Best wishes to you. I have classmates and collegues who practice in GA and they LOVE it. I go to ATL each year for the Hinman Dental Conference in March. I also have a lot of family who live in Augusta and ATL. Georgia has a nice, down home feel to it and the people are very friendly. I have family in CA and have been to CA on a number of occasions. CA is fun but I understand the move. Georgia has quite the Southern warmth that most people love. Let me know if I can be of any further help.

Sounds like you won't be practicing in GA any time soon. You're going to have to take CRDTS.

It's not the end of the world, so please make sure you contact the Georgia Board of Dental Examiners. Laws and Regulations for various states are changing all the time. If it is your heart's desire to move to GA and practice, go after it and do what you need to do to get there. Best wishes.

I definitely suggest checking with the GA Board of Dentistry before waiting and finding out you still will have to take CRDTS. Georgia makes it difficult to get a license.
I worked for 6 years then went to a 2 year Endo specialty residency and applied to get a license through reciprocity. They have a little clause that if you have gone to a training program within the immediate 5 years to applying you cannot get a license through reciprocity. Although I held a license through the SRTA examination, apparently I took the exam after they stopped accepting SRTA (therefore couldn't apply but examination).

Had I known I was going to find a job in GA before I began the residency I would have applied for a license then, because I technically was eligible with over 5 years of dental practice before deciding to return to specialize.
