I am preparing to move for residency. I got rid of furniture, and therefore I am just going to ship everything that doesn't fit in the car. Any experience with inexpensive ways to do this?

You can consider using the USPS or UPS. Ship books or other stuff that doesn't break at media mail rate (USPS, depends on contents), which is significantly cheaper than the regular rates, and much better than having movers come to move your stuff. (See movingscam.com) But it sounds like you have only a few boxes to ship if you are loading up your car.

Good luck!

If you are shipping any standard textbooks, I'd throw them away and buy the CD-ROM or online subscription (your residency will probably give you several). It'll cost you a fortune to move books and you will never be home as an intern to read them...
