MPH 2019: Applied, Waitlisted, Accepted!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Haven’t you received merit scholarship with GRE:331 from UMich? Their criteria seems weird so far!
I’ve never imagined that the word “hollistic” becomes my nightmare! Every admissions committee who don’t want to explain their real criteria, use this word!

I haven't had to hear that word much this year, but it's giving me PTSD from my med school application year. I now roll my eyes a bit whenever I hear the word holistic. lol🤣

For those who applied to Tulane, did anyone receive the Founders scholarship? Just curious as to what their criteria is for scholarships.

I haven't heard anything about aid at all. Did they send you information about the money you received when you got in?

I think the program is mainly for physicians and advanced medical practitioners who are interested in part-time study, (i.e. not for medical students).
I believe that you have excellent credentials. I wish to meet you at Harvard soon.

Accepted at HARVAAAAARD !!!!!

Thank you very much. Your sense turned out to be correct. I was accepted at HARVARD for the same program (MPH-EPI). You cannot imagine how excited I am at the moment! It like a dream that comes true.

We will end up in the same class at Harvard. I will meet you there in June 😉

Quick question - for student visit days, especially ones that require significant travel, do parents generally attend as well? My parents will be helping a lot with funding my education, and they seem to want to check out the schools and areas as well. Will it be weird if they tag along? Are most of you going alone?

Same, I haven't heard a thing. Congrats though! May I ask what percentage of tuition it is?

I think it depends on the school. I know for some schools have "student only" break out sessions, JHSPH said no guests were permitted at all. I would reach out to your individual schools.

I do remember reading on last year's thread that typically most people don't bring parents; however, if they are helping with funding I think it might get a little tricky to ask them not to come. I will be traveling alone, but I know when I visited Emory for their fall open house my BF went with me to ATL but explored on his own while I was at the university. A few people came with parents but it was definitely a majority of potential students, with the minority having a parent.

Have anyone registered for the Admitted Student Day at Hopkins? Seems like the portal doesn't work...

They emailed me yesterday offering me the Founder's scholarship!

Aside from Tulane: Seeing scholarship offers already being sent out from some of the other programs I'm still waiting to hear back from is kind of disconcerting. 🤔

I registered late last week through the portal and I didn’t have any issues. I know they sent me an email this am saying “you’re invited,” have you received this email as well? Maybe you can try through there?

Congrats as well on the scholarship!! I literally told my coworker the same thing about not hearing back as finaid offers are coming out buuuuut hopefully that doesn’t mean we’re out of the running.

That's good to know! I literally just opened my portal an hour ago and saw the decision - maybe they are still updating my portal. I haven't received the official email yet.

Congratulations on your acceptance at Hopkins! Which program did you apply for? I'm in for MSPH SBI

Found out about a merit scolarship from UMich this morning!!!
Congratulations! That’s great 🙂
Haven’t you shared your stats and experiences? If possible, can I ask you How much percent they offered?

Hye. I just received my acceptance. Try check your email and the portal. I think they releasing the decision early this year. I am surprised also. Anyone else in same boat with me?

Congrats to everyone who got accepted. I am still waiting for another 4 colleges also.

Congrats on your acceptance to Harvard. In which concentration you are accepted for Harvard?

Did anyone who was accepted to UNC (global health in particular) get contacted about a phone call? I got an email from the co-director of the department to set up a chat, and I don't know if I should be excited about it or if it's just a normal welcome thing :nailbiting:

Received that same email on November 29th and i'm still waiting, so don't hold your breath! They say that they take 8-10 weeks to send decisions, and each program does things their own way.

Hey just a quick one about the prereqs - for college level maths/bio, what had you guys taken in college?

Anyone know when harvard is releasing sm decisions? I tried investigating past years dates but am still unclear 🙁

Congrats on everyone’s acceptances though!! It’s amazing to have so many brilliant folks enter the graduate world of PH! 🙂
Harvard responded:
“we close out our admission process for the 2019 academic year. We are expecting that admission decisions will be released in the next two weeks.”

I received mine last night around 7pm EST. It's also around 15% per year!
Congrats! Does something like that affect your decision? I think you have higher rank options. I personally think that only 50% waiver or above from a +10 rank school would change my mind not to go to top 10! However, even 10-20% from top 5 would be mind-blowing 🙂 fingers crossed

Thank you @Memm77 ! It might affect my decision... I guess it's hard to tell right now because I'm still waiting on more schools/more financial info. By higher rank options, do you mean the school/program? If yes, then I certainly agree with you on all fronts.

I think my mind is just everywhere right now and hearing about this (first) offer is making the payment/loan anxiety seem very real right now...

One important point is that some schools set their tuition higher than what they should be, then offer numerous merit-based scholarships to attract students—a wise marketing policy!
I think Boston Uni, GW, NYU and Brown are four of them!

Definitely. Thank you for this insight! 🙂

Just got accepted to Harvard-65 Credit Global Health Program! (No Financial Aid Package yet) --> (Update: Called Admissions and they said it was accidentally sent and they won't have decisions for another 2-3 weeks.....um......I still don't understand how this is ok.....)

So I got an email from Harvard congratulating me on my acceptance and telling the that Admitted Students Day is 3/29. Then I got an email that the person who sent it was trying to recall it. Apparently someone in their office was testing something and sent it out by mistake. Went from super happy to super disappointed in the span of 3 mins

I received the exact same thing....so does that mean we weren't accepted?

This is my worst nightmare, I’m so sorry! Hopefully they just sent you your acceptance early and good news will follow.

I called and they told me that it was an error and my application is still under review and I can expect a decision in “a few more weeks.” I don’t know if it would be different for you

I also applied to health policy and didn’t receive this email - probably good news for you since it means an acceptance was pending in your account at least?
That’s a very positive thought, thank you! I’m trying to not be so disappointed

WOW- that's awesome! CONGRATS!!! Would you mind sharing your stats? One of my GRE scores is right at the 80th percentile so I am super anxious now
Thanks, this really made Columbia a feasible option for me! I was also right at the 80th percentile for one of my scores (Q). and scored above the 90th percentile for V and AWA. GPA was like 3.8 and I'm coming right out of undergrad so no full-time work experience.

Congrats!! Can I ask if the 50% includes federal loans or is all of it scholarship funds?
It said it was a merit scholarship so I think it's all scholarship money. I don't have a financial aid package still so a little bit confused on that end.

Just got my financial aid award from Columbia...just a 5k per year need based grant takes them out of the running, unfortunately lol
Same here 🙁 Do any of ya'll know if there is a way we could petition for more need-based grants?

Congratulations! That’s great 🙂

I'm not sure how to post my stats underneath the post but I'll do it here!

GPA: 3.95 | GRE: 165 V; 167 Q; 4.5 W
Coming straight out of undergrad!
