Hiya!
I'm an American who is currently attending medical school in Stockholm (Karolinska Institutet), because of family and finances etc I chose to attend University in Sweden. I have been thinking that an MPH would be a real asset for me when applying for residency and also later in my career.
I have been checking out the forum and the different program websites but have a couple of questions.

1. As a medical student, when can you apply?

2. Since I will be a full time medical student what will my MPH scheduale look like? Seems like there are online course options, is this viewed differently or as less strenuous as another option?
Are there any other IMGs that are doing an MPH in parallel? What does your schedule look like?

3. What kind of costs and what would be the rewards? Am I mistaken in thinking an MPH will help me when aplying for residency?

(1. I saw somewhere that it was between MS3-MS4, is this universally true for the different programs?)

P.s. I realize I am a terrible speller so skip the jabs plz 🙂

1.) Any time.

2.) There are two options. The typical two-year route. Some schools offer an accelerated one-year MPH for applicants already possessing a doctoral degree. These programs are obviously overloaded with coursework and generally run a full calendar year rather than an academic year.

3.) You add research skills to your CV. You also add whatever specialty to your degree that you're looking for: occupational medicine, preventative medicine, policy analysis, and so forth.

MPH doesn't generally help with residency as many fellowships offer MPH as part of their package (like occ med or preventative med), nor are skills attained in a MPH program necessary to perform well in a residency.
