MPH Fall 2016: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I talked to a currently enrolled student that said they received a financial aide survey right before getting an official admission decision from Columbia. But who knows. I didn't get a survey 🙁, when did you guys apply and when was your interviews?

If they don't get back to you in time you can always do a search to find out when they applied. I've explained how to do it in the thread stickied at the top of the forum.

Finally, got news from Emory. My application for Global Health "did not receive a favorable decision" (hehehe what funny wording), and now it's under review for Behavioral Sciences and Health Education. Kind of anticipated that and wasn't sure that I fit Global Health anymore so pretty OK. Just relieved I finally heard something from Emory. 😛

Cool! I'm glad you finally heard something. Based on the predictor posted too, this is following the pattern from Emory.

Nothing has changed for me, but I have a feeling I will hear something near the end of month or February since I wasn't verified until the 5th and really complete until a bit after that. I guess Emory is right about 4-6 weeks, haha.

EDIT: WELL, as of 7:07pm, I'm a liar. They just forwarded my application to BSHE and sent an email confirmation so it looks like Emory is making some traction. Well, I can't say that's going to help me focus even more than I have been lately.

I just received an email from FedEx tracking a package sent from RSPH Admissions... but of course it's heading to my dad's house, across the state. This can't be a financial aid package already, can it?

Probably the accepted student package from Emory. You may hear about merit too soon as well though. 🙂

Yeah I agree with this. Mine will be here tomorrow, supposedly. I'll let you guys know if and when it arrives as to what it contains.

re: Columbia financial aid email, it looks as though the people who got it all applied to Epi or HPM. Other concentrations, don't lose hope!

I received the survey too (got a mini-heart attack when I saw the email too because it was like 5 am where I live) but I haven't applied for Epi or HPM. Don't lose hope, though. I'm sure the emails go out in batches.

I've been reading past year threads and some people received the financial aid survey AFTER being admitted. I don't believe being a recipient of the survey now is a clue for anything.

Hello! Glad to hear from someone else who applied to the Berkeley MCH program. According to past years, they will start sending out admission decisions within the next few days. Good luck and keep us updated!

Is there a reason why you applied to MBA/MPH only at BU and not the other schools (Specifically Johns Hopkins) ?

Awesome, mine will arrive at my mom's house (an hour away) Monday, so please report back! 😀

I got accepted to maternal and child health too. My interview is on the 1st of Feb. could you let me know on the details of your interview and any tips you might have for me.
Thanks

The professor just asked me general questions about my interests, why I want to attend UNC, future career plans, etc. We mostly talked about our respective work as he did public health research in the same country I am currently working in. Very laid back interview, nothing to worry about!

@I<3kale I didn't have an interview, I don't believe the MPH programs conduct interviews. This is the first I heard back.

A lot of policy focused programs within MPH do interviews. It's much less common for Epi/biostats, etc.

I e-submitted my GW app on 12/15. But, one of my professors submitted my last LOR late and I was verified early on in the morning on 1/5. I received a complete email from GW that same afternoon on 1/5. So I believe tomorrow will be day 10 since the complete email.

I was even a bit crazy and considered if people count weekends as "days" in the whole hearing back within "10 days" timeline lol but from my research on this thread-- yes, they do. Either how, I think I need to probably chill out and be patient. Here's to hoping!
I just realized how similar our timeline is haha! I e-submitted on 12/16 and got the complete notification (had to wait for GRE scores to be sent over the break) on 1/6. Since you heard back on 1/27, what are the chances I'll hear back today, 1/28? 😱

Still nothing from Emory. Applied 10/27, verified 11/12. Not sure if I should call? Don't want to be that person, and also don't know how to phrase it. I at least want to know if it is being forwarded to another department

You won't be "that person." It's a completely logical thing to ask. Just ask if you are in the next pile to be reviewed or where your app stands on a timeline.

By the way, I called to ask about the status of my application and that's when they told me I was accepted. They also said that the decision had been made two days ago, but they just haven't sent emails out yet!

I actually didn't feel that I had a particularly good shot at any MBA programs due to lack of related experience. I didn't want to hurt my chances for the standalone MPH at Hopkins. I applied to that program at BU because I found it more interesting on a whole than their regular 2 year MPH. Sorry that I don't have a better reason!

I only applied to schools in locations that I knew I would enjoy, so I only applied to GWU, Yale and Columbia. Since GWU was really the only school I considered myself a successful applicant for, I guess I would call it a top choice!
Congratulations! I'm surprised you didn't think you'd enjoy Boston. The weather here is so fantastic 😉 😛

Should I call the specific department?

Should I call the specific department?
I would just call the public health school's admissions office. I'm not sure if you can contact the specific department for that, but it may vary per school.

Hey guys! Sooo i applied to Emory on 1/1/16, and my GRE was sent out on 1/6/16. But I never received my confirmation email from Emory nor the activation email of the OPUS system. Should I call the admission office? Does anyone also have this issue? THANKS 🙂

Oh I applied the health policy and management track!

Ugh called the admissions department and she would not budge. Basically just said that its rolling and that my application will be reviewed depending on how many applicants each department has....

But like...its not rolling if I applied in November...

Maybe wait a few hours for her shift to be over and hope the next person you call is nicer? Haha

To folks who've already been admitted to Berkeley (I think Infectious Disease/Vaccinology?): did your app status have any change between 'Submitted' and when you logged in to see your acceptance? Just wondering if I should expect to see 'Under Review' or something. Not that I'm obsessively refreshing that page or anything. 😉

It takes about 2 weeks for GRE scores to be processed by your school after they've been sent out

Congrats!!! I applied the same time you did - did they happen to say when they'll be sending out the emails?

did anyone not receive that email from Columbia about the financial aid survey? My friend is asking, I really don't think it means much though.

I applied epi and got the survey, my friend applied health policy and didn't get it. Not sure if there's any connection though!

They did not specify, but I got my formal email about an hour ago (not sure if that is because I called, though).

Hi,
Sorry but my application still says submitted. It never changed. I just got an email with my acceptance (into IDV) earlier this month.

No worries, that's actually super helpful! Now I know I don't need to be looking for anything to change.

Congrats, by the way! 🙂

Question for anyone who had already got accepted from Emory: Do you guys hear the good news from the email sent fromEmory or from OPUS?

I checked my OPUS account yesterday afternoon and found the acceptance letter ACCIDENTALLY from Health Policy and Management. (What!!!!?
However, until now there is no email from Emory about admission at all. Does anyone have the situation?

I've only received my acceptance letter via OPUS. Apparently I have a physical package coming from Emory in the mail (supposed to arrive tomorrow) which I assume is a more formal admissions package. But other than the FedEx tracking notice, I haven't received an actual email from Emory with my decision. Based on what I've seen elsewhere on this forum, I think that's fairly standard.
