MPH Fall 2016: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey guys! Sooo i applied to Emory on 1/1/16, and my GRE was sent out on 1/6/16. But I never received my confirmation email from Emory nor the activation email of the OPUS system. Should I call the admission office? Does anyone also have this issue? THANKS 🙂

Oh I applied the health policy and management track!

I had a similar situation; submitted a second set of GRE scores, through SOPHAS, After my app had been verified and received by my top dept at Emory. I sent the admissions Dept an email when I sent the scores to let them know they were on the way and then confirmed that they had received both sets a few weeks later via email. Just had to let the know which dates they should have scores from. It was a totally chill process.

Question for anyone who had already got accepted from Emory: Do you guys hear the good news from the email sent fromEmory or from OPUS?

I checked my OPUS account yesterday afternoon and found the acceptance letter ACCIDENTALLY from Health Policy and Management. (What!!!!?
However, until now there is no email from Emory about admission at all. Does anyone have the situation?

Same exact thing happened to me!

Has anyone heard back from Vanderbilt? They said to have the dicision out for the first round prior to Feb 1st. LOLOL so nervous!

That's good! i gave them a call earlier today but no one answered. Gonna send them an email later today. I got my username and temporary password from OPUS directly, but I can't log into the system using that password and username. I'm wondering if its due to the fact that they haven't verified my application yet since i didn't get the confirmation email from Emory nor the activation email for OPUS. But i was able to track my username and temporary password from OPUS directly by typing my birthday and application email 🙂

Thanks HPM! I applied about a week after you, so here's hoping 🙂 Congrats again!
Thanks! I hope you find out soon. We could be in the same cohort!! Did you apply to other schools as well or is UNC your top choice?

did anyone not receive that email from Columbia about the financial aid survey? My friend is asking, I really don't think it means much though.

I didn't get it. I also haven't heard anything about an interview either (and I'm HPM) so .. maybe I'm not the best person to reassure. 🤔

Got my Emory package today. Its super nifty! A leather binder-like thing with a notepad and few letters that explain when to accept admission/work with financial aid timelines and such. It tells me to keep looking at OPUS, like I'm not already doing that! Silliness.

I got mine today too! It's huge!!! And nice. If if only I had an ipad for the slot....

Just to confirm, the letter says just to keep up with OPUS for a financial aid timeline? It didn't really mention much in the letter.

I was hoping we could also update our profile posts with scholarship info as well. I'm most interested in that right now.... I have no idea how I'm going to pay for these next two years...
For example: Accepted: BU(+15,000 merit)

Does anyone know if Emory has released decisions for the MSPH in Epidemiology program? I've seen a lot of MPH acceptances but nothing for MSPH...

Correct. Yeah I sold my iPad like three months ago, ugh. Maybe by then I'll feel the need for another.

did anyone not receive that email from Columbia about the financial aid survey? My friend is asking, I really don't think it means much though.

I applied to SMS and did get it. They said in the email that I had marked on my SOPHAS app that I was interested in financial aid, so maybe if you didn't mark it down you didn't get the email

Just a heads up for everyone who was discussing Colorado the other day, looking through last year's thread and The Grad Cafe results it looks like acceptance/rejection emails start going out the second week of February. If it follows the same pattern we should be hearing back in about 10 days/2 weeks!

Has anyone heard back from Vanderbilt? They said to have the dicision out for the first round prior to Feb 1st. LOLOL so nervous!
Also waiting to hear back! Haven't heard anything since the email confirming that they'd received my verified application.

A friend just found out she was recommended for admission to her PhD program! I'm thrilled for her, but man, it makes this waiting game feel even longer. Maybe some schools with take pity and send out some happy notifications today. 😉

Hey y'all!

Has anyone applied and/or heard back from UNC for Health Behavior? If you've contacted anyone or heard anything, can you share what you know?

Thanks and happy Friday!

According to the Montreux Predictor, Berkeley released decisions on this exact date last year (although it looks like they were for MCH concentrators) so who knows... maybe today will be the day...

I applied to both, but even if I get accepted I'll probably choose GWU.

Hi, quick question. I haven't heard back from Emory or Columbia yet but I'm also pretty sure I'll choose GWU since it's been my dream for a year now (plus I love DC). Do you have any info on how much the department actually helps student's in setting up the practicum/internship experience? Please let me know if you have any info on that 🙂

Right? So hard to tell! I applied HSB and the earliest I saw for them was Feb 2 last year (so Monday of first week in Feb). So, either way, hopefully soon! Today would definitely be nice. 😛

Hello! I figured since I've refreshed this thread every few hours for the past 3 months I might as well do something to contribute to it. Congrats to everyone who's already been accepted!

Hey there! I applied for UNC health behavior, received email confirming receipt and review of my application on 12/11. I haven't heard anything at all yet. Looking back at 2015 applicants (and stalking Grad Cafe), it looks like we can anticipate a response by mid-February. Waiting is so hard. Good luck!

According to Grad Cafe, someone today got into Yale for an MPH! No idea about what concentration through. Perhaps some of us may get lucky today <3
Just wanted to say that I was accepted into Yale for the MPH in SBS yesterday. I applied way back in September. So, I imagine they have just recently started sending out decisions.

Especially for practicum, there are really plentiful opportunities for students to conduct research, according to alumni that I've spoken to. I know that you are assigned a specific advisor to help you in that endeavor when you get closer to completing that requirement!

Hi everyone. I've been a long time lurker but decided to make a post and join y'all on this journey towards grad school!
Undergrad School: The University of Texas at Austin
Undergrad GPA/Major GPA: 3.33/~3.55
Major/Minor: Nutritional Sciences/Dietetics
GRE (including date taken) or Other Test (if applicable): 10/21/15........151V, 158Q, 4AW
Experience/Research (please, be brief):

-Global Medical Brigades: got to to travel to Honduras and do a week long of clinic work with the community. Also worked with the organization on campus as vice president and aided in planning and recruiting ~1.5 years
-volunteered at the milk bank for a semester
-food service/nutrition assistant at a large pharmaceutical company ~ 3 months
-interned abroad at a public health government agency ~3 months
-interned with a dietitian startup company ~3 months

I know GPAs for most schools are usually 3.0 minimum, but judging by other applicants and other average stats, I don't know if my grades are the most competitive and it doesn't really help that my GRE verbal score is a bit low. Also concerned that most of my job experiences are not long-term and usually end within a semester.

My first real choice is UT-SPH due to convenience being in Texas, but I included some reach schools, cause you never know! If anybody has any insight of.. my chances (i.e. shooting too high, too many schools, etc), please free to comment.

Interested in: MPH in ... Health Promotion/Education, Community, Nutrition depending on the schools. Looking at UNT, UMich, Emory, BU, Tulane and some other reach schools such as Berkeley, UNC, Columbia....
Applied: ALL VERIFIED on 11/13!! Just want to say that you give me hope! While my GRE scores arent as high as yours (i took mine without studying, prior to DIetetic Internship acceptance... then never retook)... reading your description makes me so happy and hopeful! Thanks for sharing! Good luck in making a decision as you have AWESOME programs to decide from! 🙂

I applied to boston a few days before people who heard yesterday and haven't heard yet. thoughts??
I actually applied 12/30 but they didn't notify me that my application was complete until 1/6 or 1/7. It might be that you applied at the deadline but it wasn't complete until later? Anyway, I'm sure you'll hear back soon!

Good luck everyone!

I just received my first decision email and it's an acceptance to UCLA!!! :soexcited: It takes SO much of the pressure off for the other programs I'm waiting for knowing I've at least been accepted to one. Congrats to everyone who has already received so many admissions offers. I'm so excited to go back and edit my original post to be able to put something in the "accepted" row!

Congratulations! Which program did you apply to?

You're right, it looks like the MCH applicants hear back earlier than the rest of us folks.

Even though I didn't expect any school to get back to me this week, that didn't stop me from refreshing my email to the point where it thought I was being hacked and logged me out.

One thing which I thought was nice was GWU sending 4 emails congratulating me from 4 different people + Minnesota planning to have a current grad student reach out to me to speak to me about any questions/concerns.

I know that I won't hear back from my last school for another week or two, but I did the same thing today and got really no work done 😀

Yeah Minnesota is impressive, they're very personal. It's nice. But still very cold.

I just got into Dartmouth! 20k Merit

I am very lucky but it looks like I can't decide between either program and submitting to UC Berkeley would only add more to the stress ha-ha. Good luck to all of you who are still waiting on admission.

No kidding, apparently there are parts of MN that are colder than the surface of Mars. :scared:

If they grant me a generous aid package though, the first thing I'm doing is re-watching The Revenant for winter survival tips and buying a huge snow jacket.

I haven't done my practicum yet, but the epi-biostats department has several resources to set you up with the practicum. Aside from two academic advisers, there is a member of the department (Toni Thibeaux) who is dedicated specifically to helping with the practicum. There are also mandatory sessions you have to attend before you can start your practicum, along with a course you have to take concurrently. In other words, you don't have to seek help, help is thrust upon you 😉.

@Pudu2009 Has the snowstorm in DC affected your studies in any way? I've been hearing some horror stories about the metro shutting down/ Uber 40x rates.
