MPH Fall 2017: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
And now it's not there anymore:boom:
It is there for me now and someone else on this thread. It's terribly cruel...I am just trying to think of it as a glitch or just an "upgraded" OPUS format because they are due for maintenance on the 28th?

UPDATE: IT IS GONE NOW. WHAT FRESH HELL IS THIS?!

Yea, I emailed them and they just said I'm under review by my dept. They forwarded my message to the dept. chair but haven't heard from him.

Was just confused because they told me it would be a 4-6 week process in October, now it's looking like 4-6 months.

They should explain in their confirmation email that it will likely be 4-6 AFTER they start reviewing apps (December 15th ish). It was about 5 weeks on the dot for me. Hopefully you hear soon! Judging by your pic and username, I take it your a fellow Marylander? 🙂 It's nice to have the in-state tuition option!

I'm also able to open the "Pay Admissions Deposit" link, but no decision letter is available on my OPUS account. I never received an email saying Emory forwarded my application to my first choice department, so I'm not sure what's going on!

Edit: aaaaaand it's gone.

I applied to these schools and not a thing yet ! May be Karma? Drexel, JHU, UPenn, Brown, SDSU, Emory and NYMC. Any Idea on whats going on? I am close to peeing in my pants lol

I absolutely feel this! One thing I will say is Brown tends to be pretty slow with decisions, and I think last year the first round of people heard March 2nd or 3rd. Don't lose hope, tons of acceptances coming your way! 🙂

For Emory, I only applied to one department. Does anyone know if this means I'll get an e-mail saying my application is being forwarded to my first choice department? I haven't heard anything since they e-mailed me saying they received my application.

I also applied to just one department, and I haven't received that email. I'm guessing we should get it, but threads from previous years indicate that Emory isn't the best at communication. Some people just saw a decision letter waiting in OPUS without being notified.

Anyone heard anything about Umich scholarships? Just curious if anyone has been notified yet/ how long after acceptance did you receive the email.

Did anyone else apply for two programs at Johns Hopkins? I've been checking my portal and today only one application checklist is showing up (I applied for MPH full time and for an MS in International Health), but it's my first choice's application checklist. I am confused. Does this mean I have not been admitted to my second choice? Has anyone else had this experience?

Welp, just got the rejection email, so that answers that question.

I hope you get into the MPH program instead!!!

When did you submit for the MS Int'l Health? I applied for the same program 12/31 and haven't received anything yet, and the portal still says "Application Sent for Review" ]:

I applied late on 1/17. Thanks for the well wishes 🙂 Just to clarify, I was rejected for the schoolwide MPH even though I designated the International Health program as my first choice after I submitted for that program.

Ahh ok thanks for the clarification!

Who knows, maybe we'll be classmates haha. Fingers crossed for the both of us!

I think I'm really good at getting rejected by now Haha. *fingers still crossed*

Congrats on everyone's admissions and good luck to those who are still waiting for decisions! I plan on applying to MPH programs this fall, and I was wondering how many schools do any of you recommend I apply to? I want to apply to 3 but i feel that the chance on getting into 1 school is small for me due to my seemingly low GPA. I'm not sure about applying to a dozen schools, because that would be expensive, especially if I don't get into most of them. lol

congrats!! When did you submit to BU? just trying to gage when I should hear back/when I should ping them!

Not yet :/

Just got this email from someone in the HBHE department:

We got off to a somewhat slow start with our applications review at the start of the semester due to a number of the reviewers' travel. They are catching up and I am hopeful you will have a decision within the next couple weeks.

You might receive an email before hearing in OPUS! I received my admission offer this past Monday from the department head via email, but still nothing has updated on OPUS, so there might be something wrong with the system. She said I would get a letter in the mail so that'll make it feel a bit more final at least.
Hope you hear soon!!

If it helps, I have a 3.0 GPA and applied to 5 schools. I got into 4 out of 5.

I would not apply to more than eight programs. Those app fees are expensive. Just make sure you do your research and apply to the programs that are right for you.

I think people take different approaches depending on their stats, finances, flexibility, and personal comfort levels. When I worked in college admissions counseling, we'd tell most high school seniors to apply to 6-10 schools: 2-3 safeties, 3+ target schools, 1-2 reaches based on GPA/SAT scores. I think the same logic makes sense for these programs based on GPA/GRE/an honest self-assessment of experience and special factors, just on a smaller scale: 1+ safety, 2+ target schools, 0-2 reaches. If your GPA is low, I'd definitely focus on target & safety schools, but keep the reach one if you're okay with spending the money on the application.

That said, I shelled out more money than I should have by applying to 8 MPH programs. At this point, I'm really only interested in about 4 of them, but I couldn't have predicted that at the time I was sending my applications.

The emory email almost felt like a witch hunt lol. Does anyone know anything about JHU mental health program?

very confused...heard back from two PhD programs, but no master's programs yet! super odd!

Can anyone decipher this email? Background: emailed UNC my study abroad transcript a while ago, emailed to follow up, got this response:

"I apologize for the delay in replying to your inquiry. We are quite busy at this time of year but your application is currently under review. The study abroad transcript is still pending, if the reviewers cannot make a determination on your application without that information listed, we will hold your transcript until it comes in as long as it doesn’t extend beyond our final admissions meeting schedule for late February."

I can't figure out if that means she lost/forgot about the email with my transcript attached or not. I don't want to resend it if she already has it, but I'm so confused 🙁

That really is confusing. Do you think they are waiting for you to send it via SOPHAS or to mail a paper copy? You could respond reminding them that you've emailed an electronic copy (or resending it) and then ask if they are expecting one mailed or from SOPHAS. How did they tell you to send it?

That said, it sounds like this transcript won't really be a huge factor in their decision, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Thanks for the insight! Turns out she never got the transcript lol. I should've just emailed back right away asking to clarify but I was afraid of being annoying.

Thanks for the positive thoughts! From this thread, it appears many of us are having our heart strings tugged by Emory right now. I am just going to keep on keeping on and try to imagine nothing has happened

Hah! My OPUS log in information sometimes has the 'pay deposit online' link and it sometimes doesn't. The last time it was there, I clicked it and proceeded to the screen where I could fill out my credit card info & pay the $300.

It's all a bit odd.

HPM interview with Michgan today - *great* time to have the flu. I sound like a mix between Vader/ Kylo Ren
