MPH Fall 2018: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hi everyone! I have the very fortunate position of choosing between offers of admission from Yale, Columbia, and Johns Hopkins. I've been having some trouble narrowing it down, but I think right now I'm mostly torn between Hopkins and Columbia. I'd appreciate other people's two cents on this!

I'd choose Hopkins. Number one school for public health, plus Maryland has a ton of opportunity for jobs and internships (NIH, FDA, close to DC). Professors are also SUPER well connected at Hopkins and have been known to hook students up with really good research and job opportunities. If Columbia is giving you more scholarship/aid $ then that is a serious factor to consider but I feel like Hopkins would be an amazing choice.

I've been stalking for quite some time now and everyone has such intense stats but I hope you will all be kind and chance me. As well as tell me where I should apply for epidemiology.

Are you sure? Mine said Feb 28th
This is dependent on track. I applied to the health policy track and was told to expect a decision by Feb. 1. I’m pretty sure epi is later than health policy and global health because it had a later deadline.

Cost of living in Baltimore is lower than NYC, which gives Hopkins an upper hand because debt is no joke. If I were in your shoes, I’d let cost be the determining factor tbh

Anyone else in my boat and hasn't heard back from any schools yet? I'm trying not to freak out, but find myself checking the portals multiple times a day, especially when I see a post about an acceptance on here. Don't get me wrong, really happy/excited for everyone who has gotten an acceptance, but ughhh!!!! Just want to know so badly :arghh:

Same but I just happened to call one day and ask a question about my application and they told me there was already a decision on it. However, it wasn't and still isn't an update on my portal. So try calling and asking. It won't hurt.

Yes. I am 100% with you. Ugh.

The email said no later than February 1 for global health.
Sorry about that, guys-- I didn't know it was different between tracks! I applied Epi.

I submitted my application to Michigan on 12/14 (a day before the priority deadline) but it was not deemed complete by them until 1/12 because of some issues with SOPHAS. Can I ask when you submitted yours? I also applied for HPM!
Hey! Sorry, just saw this. I'm an international student, so my deadline was on January 15th. I applied on the last day, so I was pleasantly surprised when I heard back so soon. I hope that's not a bad sign. I'm considering Michigan as one of my top choices.

Also got the interview notification, and the same track! I am curious about what "Faculty are notified of their interview schedules 2 days in advance and may or may not reach out ahead of time" means, does it mean both the faculty and I won't know who we are going to talk to until two days before the interview? One of my senior suggest me learn about the research or background of the faculty I will chat with, but at present I still have no idea who he/she is🙂 May I ask when your interview will be?
Hello! Yes, I'm super curious as well. My interview is scheduled to happen next week, and I have no idea what to expect. What about you? How are you prepping for it?

Hello! Yes. Me. Same boat.
But I guess no news is better than bad news. Hang in there! Let's hope we get some good news soon 🙂

Just got an email from Emory asking if I'm a U.S. citizen.... They say I'm listed as a permanent resident but for both SOPHAS and FAFSA I listed U.S. citizen (because I am). I'm assuming small errors like these are what's causing the delay for some schools. AH. :dead:

Does anyone know when UCLA and UC Berkeley typically send out their MPH in Epidemiology decisions? Thanks!

For Berkeley's MPH in Epi/Biostats (not sure about Epi only) I found in the threads from the past few years that the first wave of acceptances came out in early February, and rejections generally in early March. Not sure if this will hold true this year but I'm hoping that we hear soon!

Has anyone heard from Umich Epi program who applied around 1/12

Don't want to get too hopeful but JUST refreshed my page and got a 'pay admissions deposit' link on OPUS, but still haven't received any emails or a decision on OPUS. From past forums it seems like this is a good sign? Anyone else see this on their OPUS?

I see this too! Was it not there before? I’ve never noticed it but also haven’t paid much attention to anything but the decision link + communication section.

Same!! Has that always been there though?

I've been checking my OPUS like 50000 times a day and I can tell you this hasn't been there before (at least for me) :xf:
