Hi,

I am in my 50s, have worked in Domestic Violence and Tobacco Treatment for 7 years. GPA 3.81 from UCLA, GRE V 630, Q 480 (I Know!)W 4.5

Wondering about my chances of getting into the better MPH schools (Social and Beh.Health)

Also interested in Medical Humanities/ Anyone familiar with those?

Many thanks!

Look more for schools that fit your interests and less for schools that you think are "better"

To OP: Public health schools tend to like non-traditional applicants, particularly those applicants with a strong work history/interest in the field. If you spend some time crafting your statement and have excellent LORs, you may have great success at applying to these "better" schools. That said, I think JMM's advice is sound- apply to programs that fit your interests and goals, not just programs with high-profile names.

Good luck!

Hi,

I agree with ald - if you craft a good application, you probably have an excellent chance at the best schools, and may very well be at an advantage over younger students applying with only limited work experience. Apply to a range of schools, but definitely include the strongest ones. If there is a reason for your Q score, you might address it in your essay, or you could take the exam again. If you have good grades in quantitative courses, then this can attest to your abilities in this area.
