sorry i dont know how to do those quote boxes....
"you really have to defend why an mph is not enough"
i agree. i wasn't really expecting the mph to make me a shoe-in. i was generally interested in the program and what can be done with an mph. i think the mph has been good for me in that, i take classes that are applicable to a medical career, but also get really good experiences and opportunities outside the classroom.
"You had a 3.2 gpa and a 30 on your MCAt and did not getin to ned school?? Did you do any EC's?? Where did you get your MPH, how long did it take, and did you like the program? I would apply to both allopathic and DO hedge your bets hehe. Good Luck Bro!"
Yes, I didn't get into an allopathic medical school the first time around. Yes, I did have extra-curriculars, but after being in this public health program, I have even more and better ones. I'm getting my mph at drexel, its a 2 year program, and I like it for the most part.
"I had an MPH before med school, as did 2 others in my class. We all had jobs using the degree before med school, though.
An MPH usually helps your app, but I generally recommend that people get the degree because they want it, not just for an application booster. I recommend that you think out an answer to "how will the MPH add to your practice of medicine" or some similar questions in case you're asked in your interviews."
Well, I am graduating this spring from my program, and I am in the process of applying right now. So I won't have had a long-term job with it, but this summer I am doing an internship through the Maternal and Child Health Bureau for the federal government. I've also done research and another short internship while in school. I think that is good advice, about how the mph will add to practicing medicine. Thanks!
