My MSPE was released today after ERAS "misplaced" it, saying that i did not submit one, anyways, what are my chances this late in the game with 78/99/pass/ecfmg certified, caribbean med school graduate 4 years now working in a urgent care department. Got 3 rejections today all at once, felt like crap. Got like 5 before the MSPE was released and i applied to 42 programs.

Don't worry, I got 28 out of 34 rejections. It sucks, but you'll manage and probably get a spot.

Oh my, I would freak out big time, still keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best then, what else can i do?

It's pretty much out of your control. That's the hardest part of dealing with the whole situation. The best thing you can do, is if you really want to do EM, tell yourself "I'll go anywhere, even Alaska if I can train in EM".

To be completely transparent, though, I think that you should say that you scrambled (as I had to, also). At the same time, we both scrambled (you as US grad, and me as FMG), got spots, and trained as EM docs.

Yep, and now I'm going through the match all over again.

Is the scramble for those persons who don't get interviews or is it for persons who have gotten interviews but who did not match? how does it work?

It's for people who don't "match". I had 6 interviews, ranked all 6 of them, and didn't match, hence went into the scramble. If you think rejection letters are unpleasant, the "scramble" is about 4000X more unpleasant.

The only thing worse than scrambling is scrambling twice. (Thank you, sir, may I have another?)

Even as I speak from experience, I speak to you as a residency-trained EM doc.

What i wouldn't give just for the opportunity to scramble (At least i would have been through some interviews already) though i am sure if given the chance to interview i would blow their socks off and they would rank me as high as i would rank them.

My scramble day was the only day I'd ever contemplated suicide. The entire day went by and every single program with open spots filled. By 3 PM there was nothing left. I was left wallowing in my own misery for two whole hours before King finally called. It felt like I was making a deal with the devil, but in the end I kept saying "I'll go anywhere to train, even Compton", which was the correct decision, even considering all the nonsense going on the with the place currently.

I wish Alaska had an EM program! Back about 2 years ago when my GF told me she could get a perm job with her current company in Alaska, I went straight to SAEM to look for EM programs in Alaska... alas I found there were none.

She is going to start working in Alaska in March, 2 weeks on/2 weeks off, which means technically I can go ahead and go anywhere (she is a production engineer for an oil company and will be on the North Slopes)...although she has about decided to do that through my intern year then come home and find a job teaching.

Alaska would have certainly been an experience; and certainly when I came back to Texas I could have been our great states leading expert on.. frost bite and polar bear attacks!

You obviously don't understand the "scramble". It has nothing to do with how many interviews you've gotten. Even if you get zero interviews you can still scramble. On scramble day, just send your ERAS application to every EM program with open spots, and wait to see what happens. You can do that with other specialties as well if you like.

Oh i see, now i get it, so it is really not over until after the scaramble then is it? great, so i have months and months to wait then even if i don't get any interviews and see what happens in the scramble. Thanks for clearing that up for me, there is still hope...even in the boon docks somewhere i hope spots won't be filled and give people like me a chance
