hi all-

I know for medical school, because there are so many applicants, often schools must plug your numbers into a calculator to cut off many applicants. Is this the same for MSTPs? For example, when I submit my primary, will I automatically be sent secondaries for all my schools? Or, do most schools cut you off if your numbers are too low before sending out secondaries? Is the secondary application the first time the adcoms see your LOR? I know my LOR will be outstanding (not trying to be cocky, really) however, I'm unsure of my stats and want to know if I'll get cut off before any adcoms even see the rest of my application. After submitting secondaries, do many schools cut you out for number purposes also (ie. once you submit your secondaries if your numbers are below a certain number, you are automatically deleted from the process)? Or once you submitt secondaries they look at your whole application? I hope this makes sense. Any help on this topic would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

You will not be prevented from receiving secondaries because of a GPA of 3.73 or a BCPM GPA of 3.60. An exception may be the UC's, especially UCSF. However, officially, the application will be held from review until the MCAT is received.

You will not be pre-screened for secondary anywhere except UCSF. Unless you are from an Ivy League or similar caliber undergrad institution, I would say don't bother applying to UCSF. They will pretty much only take in-state residents and you have to be from a powerhouse undergrad to get consideration (look at mdapps.... superstars from state schools that got in everywhere incl. harvard, stanford would get rejected pre-secondary by UCSF).

Then they will never see your letters. I have never heard of another MSTP rejecting pre-secondary except Univ. of Washington.

seventhson-

so does this mean that I'll automatically get secondaries to all the schools I apply to, and then when I submit my secondaries, they'll look at my numbers, IN ADDITION TO my LORs, essay, research etc..? Or at secondaries do they only look at your numbers? Thanks for all your help.

The former is correct, with the exception of UCSF and UW.

thanks so much for your help. its makes me feel so much better knowing that my numbers won't be the only thing looked at during my primaries and secondaries.
