Hello,
I've recently had an opportunity to shadow an anesthesiologist and an AA.
I loved it. I also have an MD buddy that is an anesthesiologist, and he loves the profession. Prior to this exposure, I thought I'd like to do FP, or IM. But, I think that I really enjoy the procedural stuff.

I feel that I have a really good shot at being accepted to a DO program for fall 06. I have 4 interviews over the next 2 months.

My biggest opportunity will be at MSU COM as I'm a state resident. I went to MSU undergrad, and I know I'll love being there. I also have an MSUCOM alumni buddy, and he's spoken very highly of the program.

My concern is that it's a very primary care focused school. It seems that other programs (AT Still/KCOM and perhaps CCOM) are not quite as primary care oriented.

Will it be more difficult to eventually obtain a residency in anesthesiology if I attend MSC COM versus another DO program?? My other interviews are at AZCOM, TUN-COM, and NSUCOM.

Or does the school matter less than board scores, grades etc??

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hey neighbor,

I honestly don't think it matters where you go. I would think as long as you do well in your anest. rotation and score well on your USMLE, you would be competitive for an anesth. residency. Have you heard from Wayne State? Good luck with everything.
