There is no interview for this school?

For the most part they do not interview before offering acceptances. For some candidates there is an interview but not for many. If you do get an acceptance they allow you to visit the school and "interview them". Good luck!

There's a reason their secondary is such as pain in the butt.

this whole LOR thing can get pretty messy.both of my letter writers sent the letters weeks ago, but the status email says one is missing. I asked about it in an email but all they said in response was they would push back my deadline. hmm..sent another email today to find out which letter it was so it could be resent..
i assume they don't want a phone call...i guess I will just see if they respond to my email..this is pushing me back, any advice?
It took them three weeks to actually update mine. I called them though. That seemed to get the ball rolling...

Congratulations to everyone who was accepted! I received my acceptance on Sept. 17th and I'm trying to decide whether to go ahead and submit my deposit...I applied to a bunch of schools; therefore, I don't know too much about any particular program. I heard that MSU COM ranks very high in primary care and that in fact, it's the "best DO school in the nation." Is this accurate? I want to know everything there is to know about the school before making a final decision! I was also shocked at the tuition: $61,000 out of state!!! Any idea why this school costs so much more than every other one? I appreciate your input 🙂

I say your best way to receive as much information about the school and tuition matters is scheduling an appointment with a MSUCOM advisor. It isn't hard and you can have the appointment via phone which is very convenient.

OH crap, this is really ridiculous...How am I supposed to know that they require a separate form for LOR's? I completed my primary application on the 1st of september and am still waiting to get it verified!

Could anyone please send me the LOR form? They don't have it on their website!

P.S. how competitive am I for MSU D.O.? I am a michigan resident and will probably be complete in october...

Congrats!, I hope I can say the same sometime soon

How long was it from when you were complete to when you heard back from MSUCOM (accepted or otherwise)?

My chances.... 3.7GPA, 3.60 science, good LORs, good ECs, 24O MCAT.

Any helpful ideas?

Hi everyone, happy are to those who got good news. For me today I got an email for MSUCOM and I thought it was too fast to be good, and it wasn't. They offered me an interview and they want to see my fall grades..... From all the postings I'm starting to worry. This will delay me until January, and what chances do I have by then? The only thing I'm wondering is why do they need to see my grades? I have a 26R MCAT, 3.57 overall GPA and a 3.5+ science GPA..the only problem is that I am taking Genetics right now..Can anyone tell me what they are expecting to get out of the interview? Have anyone gotten in after interviewing? Oh the stress is building up, and anyone out there who is in the same boat as me, just know I feel your pain. I wish you all the best....

it only took about 7-10 days after the completion for me!

Good luck everyone else, don't give up hope no matter what!

Could you tell me what their essays are?

It isn't the essay that makes the secondary a pain. There really isn't any one thing, its more of a combination of factors...such as the nit-picky & time consuming evaluation forms, the non-academic experiences page that pretty much asks you to list and describe every possible activity you've ever done...and remember the number of hours you did it.

The essay is pretty straightforward, it asks something like..."describe an ethical dilemma or a personal experience. How has this experience/challenge shaped the development of your character. How has the experience/challenge helped you develop skills necessary for the practice of osteopathic medicine"

Something to that effect.

Don't worry, you'll be fine. From what I've heard, MSUCOM's interviews are really laid back. Maybe the hold has less to do with your grades, and more to do with the fact that your are currently in genetics. I think genetics is a required course for MSU. Maybe they just want to wait and see how you do.

yea that is what I heard too, but still ...... They might be right though if they are worried about genetics, it is fricken hard, blows orgo, and biochem away... Oh man I will go study my butt off from now on.......Damn UofM and their crazy science courses!!!!!!!!

anyone know when the classes for class of 2013 would officially start for the first time???

anyone know when the classes for class of 2013 would officially start for the first time???

I believe you need to be in East Lansing by the end of June they do an orientation and then class starts in the beginning of July. You do an 8 week intensive Anatomy session first and then start the rest of your classes when you're done!

I am so jealous you have been accepted already! I really hope I hear something good in the next few weeks!

I was told by Dr. Falls who is the Associate Dean/Student Services that orientation for the incoming class of 2013 is the last full week in June. Then ANTR 551 (Medical Gross Anatomy) will start on July 1st.

this is bad... very bad....

i am scheduled to get married july 18th in indiana

how the hell am i going to do that now

Orientation starts June 22, 2009. Its like a week or something, the white coat ceremony on that Friday, and anatomy starts Monday....I asked becuase i ahve to end my summer courses early if I get accepted!

Why would they schedule orientation to begin on a Thursday?

June 22nd 2009 is a Monday and the first day of orientation as mentioned in the previous post. White Coat Ceremony would then be Friday June 26th and the first day of anatomy on Monday June 29th instead of July 1st.

They will work with you. There won't be a problem taking a few days off to get married, but the honeymoon might be a challenge.

For everyone who has their application in and has not heard anything yet, lets all cross our fingers for this week ><

I am crossing fingers and toes! haha. Good luck to you too!

OK, so I just needed a place to vent... but I am 99% sure that my secondary application has been LOST in the mail. I sent it Certified Mail on the 22nd and it still says that it was only accepted in Rochester which means that it has never made it to East Lansing! It should have only taken 3 days at a maximum...I have called everyone I can think of and I am running out of ideas. I am mildly freaking out because this is my number one choice and this is just delaying things even more. Hopefully it will turn up!! 🙁

Well I unfortunately had some issues with things getting lost in the mail as well (transcript for aacomas). I would not wait. I hope you made copies of your application. I would just mail it again. If it did indeed get lost in the mail and you had it certified maybe they would pay for you to mail it again. Call the school and let them know what happened just in case it happens to get delivered, so they know they may be getting two copies of your app.

One of my evaluation forms was lost somewhere between my evaluator's office and MSUCOM Admissions. I submitted everything on Aug. 25th. My first letter was sent the 26th. What drives me crazy is that I called and asked Admissions about what to do 3 weeks ago when I noticed it had yet to be recorded. They said they were super backed up and to be patient. When I talked to them a few days ago, they said they have no record of receiving my letter and to resend it. Ahhh! I wish I would've known to resend it 3 weeks ago. SO frustrating! It seems as though things are lost more often than you'd think.

Yes, I called Admin yesterday and they told me to wait till Friday and see if it shows up. So, if it isn't there then I am going to send another copy and stop payment on my check. It just seems like there is always something and getting anyone to help you is like pulling teeth!!

Wednesday bump. Any news today?

I wonder if the committee even met yesterday since it was a jewish holiday... I didn't hear anything today 🙁

You know, they might have not. I saw one of the COM advisors yesterday and she didn't say anything about it, but that makes some sense.

I also know that a pretty key member of the administration, who is also on the admissions committee is gone temporarily due to a medical prob. I'm sure they have some kind of contingency plan in case of such things, but it could have something to do with it.

😕

I also received an acceptance email yesterday! Was complete about 10 days ago. GPA: 3.6 and MCAT: 27.

Man this blows, I've been complete since 9/9, haven't heard a peep. I just called them and she dryly told me theres nothing she can tell me. I guess I'm done for this school, seems people are getting acceptances a week to a week and a half after being complete.

I have a 3.5 and 26 MCAT in state status, I thought I'd at least get a sniff at this school, oh well...

there will probably be one more spot opening up for one of you soon...
I'd love to go to this school, but I've been accepted to other schools and I am OOS... I'm probably going to save the tuition money
good luck everyone

I have been done since 8/22 and I have not heard anything either. This is the school I want to go to so I guess the best idea is to just be patient.

Dr. Falls, who is the dean of student services is currently on a medical leave, but another dean is temporarily assuming his role. As for hearing back quickly, sometimes it takes time. I didn't turn in my application until October, so it took a while for me to hear anything, and I ended up getting accepted. A negative attitude will not get you anywhere. Staying positive is the best approach to the entire application process. There is a ton of time and a ton of spots open still for the upcoming year. And even though people are being accepted, it does not mean that they are going to MSUCOM for sure. There was a lot of movement on the waitlist last year and I bet there will be a lot of movement this year. Good luck to everyone applying and I'm sure everything will work out in the long run, whether it's at MSUCOM or some other medical school.

Good post joeboxguy101 and thanks for the encouraging words. I guess I'm just down because I'm pretty sure my app has been reviewed, thus no news probably isn't good 👎. I'm guessing you are only reviewed once and thats it correct? (i hope not 🙁)

I haven't heard anything back, either, and I was complete at the end of August.🙁 I am OOS, and I didn't think that my stats were TOO terrible (3.3/30) but OOS + bad grades I think will kill me👎. Does anyone know any OOS'ers who've been accepted yet?

I've been accepted and I'm living down in San Diego, so don't lose hope 👍

Thanks for the encouragement Seina, but I think it makes me even more concerned that you got in as an OOS before us in-staters...oh well, everything happens for the reason. Good luck to you!

Congrats newly accepted. Question: All of this accepting, but did anyone get an interview like me? I feel like the minority here.
